That was excellent Larry!! Straight, honest and to the point.
How come he has never come to the neighborhood meetings, Common Council Meetings......any meetings?
I thought in the beginning this might be an act to finally settle things for a while, but the more I dig and the more I see and hear, the more I realize what a snow job it is we are getting.
Go for it my friend.

Great video. The only suggestion I would make is to move your teleprompter further away and/or use a much smaller column width. That should keep your eyes from noticeably tracking the text.
Are you using a red backdrop for the chroma key?

Great video I agree but I think you should have been directly dead center and looking and talking straight forward and into the camera. With your eyes moving all over to read the script it is very distracting and tends to make one feel you are not sincere. It's all about eye contact...same as when you speak to someone in person.

It is a double-edged sword, however. You fault Mr. Halbritter for not going to any county board meetings. Was he ever invited? Why not? Sure it's open to the public, but with all the animosity he faces from the board of legislators, why would he walk into the lion's den without an invitation? How many times did you or other board members reach across the table and ask to negotiate? Forget about partisan politics for a minute because nothing stopped the board of legislators from initiating their own negotiation series. How many sent letters or made phone calls asking to meet with Mr. Halbritter to discuss possible settlements? How many tribal meetings do you or the other legislators attend? Why did you or did you not attend them? Did you speak at them? Were you asked to speak? Did you ask to speak? What did you say? My understanding is that Mr. Halbritter has held public meetings to discuss the deal out in Vernon. Did you attend? Why not? Who did attend? Who didn't? Why or why not?
I agree that the animosity must end, but until one side is willing to do so, why should the other stop? When you have a small group of people crying about the US Constitution being trampled on, with NO facts or sources to support such an outlandish claim, why would the Oneidas not be expected to return fire by calling the opposition who endorse such hateful statements "backwards?"
I think the deal is good, better than what we are getting now: ZERO! Build on it, create a partnership.
So far, I have seen nothing but scare tactics and hatred from the opposition. My grandfather once told me that you have to fight fire with fire. With all the fire coming from people like hennesey and townsend and vickers, it's no wonder the Oneidas would return fire.
To have a true negotiation, but sides must be willing to give, not just take. All i have seen so far is the county and state take without giving anything. That's been the approach for 3 decades and we see how successful that has been.

Don't know kiddo. This whole area has been slipping down the drain for too long now. Seems people have to start in a different direction from the paths we took to get us into this mess. Seems we have to start accepting the new and work off of that but I don't see our legislators willing to do that. It is a give and take situation and until our legislators realize that we, the taxpayer, will pay for their mistakes. Lets face it, our legislators don't agree on much. It always becomes a power struggle and who can create the bigger racket. If one said black, the other will say white. Now, how in the hell can they even think of negotiating anything with outside sources for our benefit? Sh*t, when the next elections come up, GET RID OF THEM ALL! We can't get any worse then what we already have. Until then, I'm afraid we're screwed my friend.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Sorry for the late response. We've been extremely busy. It is great news that the entire board has united against this. That does not mean that we do not support a negotiated settlement. This was simply a terrible deal. Swimmy, we have sent MANY letters asking to meet with the Oneidas. Halbritter has stated that he refuses to meet with any of us. Picente refused to keep us informed on the details and now complains that he didn't know what the GOP was going to do until the media found out. Now he knows what we ALL (Dem and Rep) felt like on the leg. He needs to work with the legislature if he intends to get anything accomplished. It is not a dictatorship. I commend every legislator for taking this issue very serious and putting politics aside.
Gear - Good points on the video. You seem to know a bit about production. I'm trying to learn. Dave gave me some good advice a while back. I have to get better with the teleprompter. You're right, I read that it should be farther away. I had the camera and prompter right in front of me. I'll try that next time. I use a green screen for the chroma key, with a QL Softbox light kit from TubeTape.com and Final Cut Pro for editing.
Bobbie, I definitely understand your frustration. I would only say that this was actually a time were we all agreed that this was a bad deal. Even those that feel the same way Swimmy does about the issue couldn't bring themselves to vote for such a bad contract. Times like this I wish everyone in the public could have been there for all the reviews and discussions with legal counsel. Maybe then you would understand why it was so bad. Unfortunately the media doesn't do much in-depth reporting on the details. They simply report the sound bites (from both sides).

trouble is larry halbritter doesnt have to meet withor comprimise with anyone Oneida and Madison Counties are doomed to spend millions on law suits they cant win..The supreme court has already taken a stand in defense of the nation and the bia will alow them to put many thousands more acres into trust all for what was undeveloped and untaxed farm land...the sales tax issue is a ghost issue and under the states pervue to deal with not the county's..55 million in the hand is better than pissing away my tax money on lawsuits that benefit no one but the lawyers...

Corner, your points are well taken. However, even if the land goes into trust, they must satisfy the leans first. That is the BIA policy and conceded by Halbritter. According to Halbritter himself on WKTV last week, that would amount to at least $70M. The sales tax issue is one that is the state's responsibilty. But if we signed this contract, we were waiving all rights to sales tax, making it a mute point for the state. Picente didn't want anyone to know that (see Exhibit I of the contract).
Again, it wasn't that we didn't want to come to an agreement, but we were also elected to make sure we do our homework and not sellout future generations. I am 100% confident that we made the right decision, even if not popular with some.

then its seems best to do nothing and stop wasting taxpayer money on unwinnable lawsuits and try to negotiate again,, but halbritter has the home court advantage

The land into trust process does not allow land that has a tax lean on it to be considered. Therefore at the time that the application was started there wasn't one.
Don't know where the one's you speak of came from. In fact until the Sherrill decision, the casino and other land in Verona was on the tax exempt list. In addition while the process was going on no taxes could have been levied because the Feds took care of what ever the fair amount of taxes could have been. So the county has NO back taxes to collect. And the $500 million that the UCE has been misinforming the local residents with is alarming. The $55 million was a good agreement, at least the county would have some income for 10 years so that they could continue to work with the OIN to work out what would happen in the future. In addition we would have some new companies that would've located in our county if the climate were more business friendly.
Now we are screwed and the OIN really has no need to negotiate, but they will if the county can negotiate in good faith.
