Let's have a BYOB laundry party Dave. Just don't allow any POWDERED detergent. It could be laced with something that might make our skivvies itch, or worse. I'll bring the Cheer. Do we need someone to bring the "mixers"? I may have a bottle or two of Downy laying around.

Dave, just don't strip down to your skivies for the soap ball toss! Thanks for your kind words. That's exactly how I would expect a leader to respond to constituents -- like a leader.
Lefty, I know there's not a general consensus on whether or not the city should install water meters. Most folks don't even know if it's an issue. . That's because we haven't had a public discussion about it.
You're absolutely right about the mayor and council with their ongoing feud. For you out-of-towners, the council isn't happy with a few of Brown's department heads. The GOP members actually held a private caucus to discuss changes to the city charter that would give the council hire & fire power and authority to conduct performance evaluations for the mayor's top staff. The mayor found out about the meeting and went ballistic (I have worked with Jim in the past and can just picture his initial reaction). The two sides refuse to sit down and work out their differences. I see it now getting to the point where it will start hurting the entire city and it needs to stop.
Clipper, the most recent proposal was to include meter installation in a federal grant request. There would be no cost to install them for the homeowners, other than through their federal income taxes.

Gee Frank. Ya can't hardly ask for a better deal than that for instituting the program. No better use for federal grant money. I have seen more spent on less deserving programs. It makes sense to me.
As for Brown and his department heads, I guess the sore losers have two choices, and they are to hang tight until the next election and run a viable winning candidate against Brown, or try now to bring some sort of recall or impeachment proceeding against him. Brown most likely has picked some department heads that are threatening the status quo in those departments and it is starting to affect some of the past appointees and their connections or influence.
Don't ya just love city politics? We wonder why our cities are circling the drain. It is because the city administrations and officials are too busy covering their own asses and the asses of their friends to get anything productive done.
As I said, I have little information on the Rome political scene, but from what little I HAVE read in the sentinel, this Brown is a breath of fresh air, and is shaking some trees that haven't been shaken in years. I guess we will just have to wait and see what falls when he is done shaking.

They're starting to act like big fish in a little pond.

Oh, that'll be a hoot! It would severely impact the favorite passtime of many of the seniors in Rome: watering driveways and sidewalks.

Hey Snickers, don't be picking on just us seniors. I've seen plenty of young whipper-snappers washing their Harleys every time they come back from a ride. My sons included. ;D They wash their bikes more then I wash my sidewalk and driveway.

I think the guy that lived next to my Mom and Dad's house washed his entire blacktop driveway at least 3 times a week. He didn't go out but about twice a week, so the driveway didn't get tracked up or dirty. He was the only guy in the neighborhood with hard water stains on his blacktop, haha. His water bill was probably higher than his cable bill.

Hey Clipper, don't be poking fun at that guy when he only washes his driveway one more time then you do yours.

Or maybe he washes his driveway more than showering himself.

My driveway gets washed once in the spring, to wash away the green pine pollen, and then only if someone tracks the red clay mud on it from somewhere. The rest of the summer, it simply gets cleaned up with a leaf blower after I mow and edge with the power edger. We have been in a drought here for the last two summers. I save what water I can from carwashing etc, in order to use it on my veggie garden every 3 or 4 days in warm dry weather. I take my truck to a carwash here in town, that recycles water, and I seldom wash it at home.
I don't have to tell you that when you are a retired senior, you don't skoff at conservation measures, and you cut corners where you can to save a few bucks. I only pay about $25 a month for water here, and I try to keep it that way. Water is cheap here, but then again we don't have sewer.

I thought the shower reference was pointed at the driveway washing neighbor. ME? Once a day everyday, and sometimes twice in sweaty weather when working outdoors. It is a "bad habit" that I was taught as a child, and was enforced by my stint in the military. Those that can be comfortable washing just their nuts, butts and pits, are much more tolerant of that sweaty sticky feeling than I am. I can't even think about sleeping, unless I have a hot shower and a shave before bedtime.
I suppose I waste more water washing my fat ass though, than some do washing a car, or their driveway. Just a matter of square inches or feet being washed, haha.
