I find it absolutely insulting that in this great economic woe, our county "leaders" do not feel the need to curb spending and be more responsible with taxpayer monies. I guarantee if they had to back each of their lame-brain programs, e.g. EDGE, they would not be investing in these failed programs. The taxpayers are taxed to the breaking point. We have a President addressing the nation as I type this who thinks that by spending MORE we can save the economy. The county "leaders" don't even seem to be bothered by the fact that instead of reducing the taxes that could be saved by reducing the burden on the people, they will keep the money to spend it on something else. There is a reason why I had to leave the area! NO JOBS! Very few organizations are hiring, except low-paying service jobs that usually go to either the retired, or the high school and college kids looking for a quick buck during school breaks. You would think the county and state "leaders" would get the hint that there is a serious flaw with our current government setup. It is pathetic that a newspaper editor's son gets a slap on the wrist for an underage dwi because certain IMPORTANT news is intentionally left unpublished, e.g. the bonding vote in New Hartford, the toxic clean up going on in New Hartford, 840, the new business park, and many more. We have a government that prefers secrecy and misleading the public to line their own pockets and do favors for friends. That was NEVER what government was supposed to be. I say, keep the jobs cut and put the money toward more important things, like investing in wind power electric generation off the coast of long island to subsidize the area's exceedingly exorbitant power costs (we could get rid of national greed). Invest the money in repairing decaying infrastructure. Everyone but the mayor knows that many streets are filled with dangerous potholes, but nothing is done! We apparently need more money from the state and federal government to do that. Fix the sewer problem, you know, the one that the state said we owe 60 million (or so) in fines.
