Help! I just got a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000, and I'm having trouble with it. If I try to use it with Skype, my speakers get muted, and I think it's Logitech that's doing it, but I'm not sure. If I try to use it with gmail or yahoo messenger, I can see myself through the Logitech software, but the video box that pops up with those 2 services is black and the person I'm trying to talk to sees only a black box. Any ideas of how I can fix this?

Maybe Westmoguy can help Kim. Doesn't he have the webcam monitoring weather in his yard in Westmoreland? I am sure it is only a matter of time until Ralph or someone comes online, and sees your thread and has the expertise to help. Good luck. Ahh the frustrations of the computer age. LOL.

Actually, Ralph already tried and had the same problem I had! I've been working on it and now I do have some video, although choppy, but no sounds. Grrrr. I want this set up so I can have web chats with video!

Oh wow! Does this mean we will have half hour segments of the "Daily adventures of the Amazing Critter", my superhero?? LOL Hey, just send them to Grandma and Grandpa, and she can put a link in there for me to get it off of her blog, haha. Grandma and Grandpa get first consideration of course.

Kim, Re the muting problem: Some of my radio programs will mute functions on the sound card to prevent feedback and doubling while audio filtering. If you can find the speaker icon down on the task bar on the far right (you may need to expand the area to see it), double click it and you'll get the windows volume control. Make sure nothing is muted (no check marks) and all the sliders are at least half way up. Then, on that panel, do an option/properties. A new panel will appear. For the heck of it, make sure everything is checked on for BOTH 'playback' and 'recording.' (Playback and Recording are different views and different sets of check marks.)

I went and downloaded g-mail and its associated video software to see if I could figure it out along the way and ran into the same problem Kim was having, with g-mail anyway. The audio in/out was fine, just no video.
I didn't bother to try the rest of the stuff she was fighting with!!
Sometimes it can be associated with ones video card not having enough "umph" so to speak, but I have a add-on card that more than handles anything I can pump into it, so my thinking is since it is beta software to begin with, they are still working out the kinks.
Time will tell on this one. I am not really into video on this thing much but can do video e-mails with it through Outlook without any problems.

I un-mute everything and it mutes it right back! I mainly want this for video chats...I want to be able to have dinner with people who are hundreds of miles away!

Yeah, and I want to get one, too, so they can see us. But I don't want to buy one if it looks as choppy as Kim's does.

Kim, I'm guessing here, not knowing what you're really doing. You're not using line out when you should be using speaker, or vice versa, are you? (Assuming your sound card has both. Or for that matter, microphone versus line in.) I'm trying to think about it from the point of view that the program is doing something very logical., but that doesn't agree with how you're hooked up.

Is that a quick cam pro 9000 notebook? Thats what I have Kim.
I'm not sure about setting it up in Skype and Yahoo chat. Yahoo should automagically see it. You running the Logitech Quick Cam software?
You have a router you're using it, cause you'll need to open up a port probably.
