Picente: Time is now to consolidateUTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente says the time is now to consolidate services. Picente says a committee, between the county and the three cities has been formed, to look into making changes. Utica, Rome and what? I haven't lived in the Mohawk Valley in a long time, I guess.LATER: With a little research, I found there IS a third city, even though I never thought of it. But I'm posting this anyway, to see if anyone else had trouble guessing it.

I thought Sherrill was in Madison County.

Sherrill is in Oneida County, the county line is between Oneida Castle and Oneida.
I wouldn't feel bad, a recent NY Governor thought he was in Oneida County when he visited the City of Oneida.
It was easier when I lived in Minnesota, almost every incorporated area was a city. There are about 3 villages in the whole state. I found New York very confusing with towns, villages, hamlets, villages in more than one town (New York Mills), un-incorporated areas that have their own Post Ofice & zip code (Washington Mills). How does any student here ever pass their state geography test?

You think that's bad? In Michigan, I lived in the City of Lansing. However, my actual residence fell into the Delta Township. So when a water main broke on my street and I called the Lansing Board of Water and Light (where I had to pay my utility bill), they directed me to the Delta Township water board to address my concerns and gain information about the water main break.

They don't study geography in school anymore. At least they didn't when I was a teacher way back in the late 70's and early 90's. Damn I wish I didn't go nuts. Stress was way to much to stand on a daily basis that I started hiding to find peace. Well anyway, how did I get on that subject. Oh well my shrink will be on vacation until the end og March, wow a long time. I always like when a student was asked which way was west and they said left. Of course south was always down, unless they had to find Florida on a map while they were sitting at there desk---in that case Florida was toward your chest. I had no idea how they figured out North. I knew they knew where east was because they pointed to east Utica, regardless of where they were. So much for paying $11,000 per pupil. It's going to be a cold week. I need to cook some kind of comfort food.
I keep thinking how I will feel when I am 80 years old sitting in my diaper at St. Luke's Home in the hallway all alone.

I knew Sherrill was a city (the smallest in the state) because VVS is a Small City School District (one of approximately 50 in the state) by virtue of it including the City of Sherrill.

Of course, it's always possible that Picente was mistakenly referring to Oriskany as the third city. The news article mentioned only Utica and Rome.

Sherrill was chartered as a City when James Sherman (former VP) was our Congressman. The residents asked him to name the city and he named it after his son, Sherrill Sherman.

Larry, are ya having trouble with your webpage? I tried to access it this morning, and I got a page load error. I will try again shortly. I don't know if it is your problem or a problem with the server just being busy or something.
Do me a favor and stick your link back up here, and I will try to get there from that. Hey it's worth a try right? I just tried and still get the error message.

I just tried to email ya Larry. It went through, but it took a long time to be sent. I think there may be a server issue in accessing your site. Maybe someone else will try and let us know if they are successful.

Hmmm. At least I now know that it is not a problem with my browser or with my computer. Now all he has to do it find out WHERE the problem is.

I knew Sherrill was a city from the US Sup. Ct. decision in 2005. But, as I stated earlier, I thought it was in Madison County.
I bet you he considers New Hartford to be a city and that is why the paper neglected to mention that third city.
