Wow! Obama did it in a landslide! Even I am hopeful about a new leadership and what it may hold for the country. (No, I don't believe we'll all be worshiping in mosques next year or that Kim will have to wear a burka.) I voted for McCain, but I think even he knew he wouldn't get elected. Obama has a huge task in front of him. That's true for any president-elect, but I think in particular for a man who promised so much change. (And with a Democratic congress to back him (although there are a number of moderate/conservative Dems he has to win over), Obama is poised to bring the US government closer to the picture being drawn by a changing America. Soledad what's-her-name (not one of my favorite news announcers) said last night on a CNN panel show that America was becoming a nation where the majority is an assemblage of minorities, and I think she's right. I'm just not sure what that holds for us, politically. I'm not sure if it knits us together or pushes us asunder. I hate to say it, but I don't have a lot of hope things will change very much, not because of the players, but because I've never in my lifetime seen things change, and so I'm unexpectant. But we can hope. I thought this article apropos. Posted this morning by AP: ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gDIsurKSs0ORaDo3cn6PT1fgbtaAD948NBJO3 Here's a quote from it: "In exit polls, based on interviews with voters who had just cast their ballots, six in 10 said the economy was the most important issue facing the nation. And that was Obama territory." I've never understood how Obama captured the economic issue. Anyway, did you catch McCain's "I give up" speech? That man has class. Dave

I thought both speeches were terrific! Obama brings a lot of hope and freshness, but like you Dave, I don't hold out for much change. I'm disappointed that so many incumbents got re-elected. They received no punishment (by not getting re-elected) for this mess the country is in. Bush didn't do this all by himself. I thought people would vote in the new people to jump start the country. Nope, they kept in most of the people that put us where we are today. Huh....go figure. It's gonna be an interesting 4 years!

At least the majority in the House and Senate are Democrat. This will help Obama greatly.Barack and his wife are the new Kennedy's. The media is already asking how she will redecorate the White House. Maybe we won't refer to it as the White House anymore but simply the Presidential House.

Wasn't Hillary enough of a lesson in the 90's? Wasn't Jackie enough of a lesson in the 60's? Guess not. If Michelle Obama wants to win my heart, she'll appear on CNN's "A-Hole 360" and ask the goon, "Are you the idiot who covered Hurricane Ike standing in a septic tank in your chest waders?" Anyway, I'm hoping the Obamas have a lot more class than the Kennedys and the Clintons. Something tells me they might. They're from better stock. Concerned, by the way, why are you predicting a presidential assassination? Does the Secret Service know about you?

CG, from what I've read, most polls show Americans dislike the Congress and the men and women in it. But people like their own congressman. So when they return the local rep or senator or assemblyman at the state level, the combined result is the same congress or assembly. Term limits might help, but there's a downside to that, too. You betcha!! (And we haven't heard the last from that lady!)

I'm not predicting anything like that. I just have a gut feeling that something will go wrong.

I guess that possibility is on a lot of minds. I certainly would hope that it would not happen, but Kennedy was killed because he was young, was bringing change, and was a catholic. I would hope that the racists and bigots in the country would not take the life of this brilliant young man, and father of two. I am not an Obama fan, but I hold out hope that he will be able to accomplish some of what he says he will. If he can repair our relations with European countries that Bush arrogantly ran over roughshod, he will have accomplished much.
I am still waiting to see who and what comes out of the woodwork, when it come to his affiliations and alleged affiliations, as well as his marxist past indescretions. Hopefully he will be decent and not bring any leftist, racist blacks to his cabinet, to inflame the fires of hate. We have a chance to quell the fires of racism. It will be up to him to insure that it is done.
This could be an opportunity to make inroads in race relations, or it could be a disaster, where people like Sharpton, Farahkan, and others bring back the days of the Black Panthers and racial unrest. The "New Black Panther Party" makes me very uneasy. There is no productive purpose to having such an organization in place, other than to spread hate and prejudice farther than it is already spread.
If Obama can find black cabinet members like Condi Rice, Colin Powell, and other fair minded, educated black diplomats like them, we will be blessed with a fair and balanced cabinet and administration. I am sure that he will do his best to fill his cabinet with great advisors, and I hope his military advisors and security people are competent and accomplished in their fields. His inexperience will need to be tempered in areas where experience is a necessity. I am sure he will do okay. Hang on, it may take a while and it may be a bumpy ride for a while.
Concerned is not the only one that expresses the concern that he will be killed by an assassin's bullet, but in today's environment, and homeland security being what it is, I would be very careful how I stated my opinions. It is not impossible that the secret service WOULD investigate and watch a person making such statements. Wording could bring down a whole world of crap on a person's head.

My friends and I have wondered the same thing about somebody or a bunch of somebodys not being happy with the election outcome and doing something horrible. You hate to even think it let alone say it out loud! I think the Secret Service is gonna be pretty busy from now on!

The Feds already busted a couple white supremest groups who planned a killing spree of any black voters and others who support Obama, culminating in killing Obama in Washington.
Presidents have been assassinated before because of public outrage over results. Kennedy was assassinated for several reasons, many believe it was a conspiracy because the party brass did not think he was strong enough to fight against Nakitta Kruschiev. President Lincoln was assassinated when he masterfully allowed the south to be reconstructed ("why is this an issue, the southern states never left the union). President Garfield because he didn't give his assassin credit for helping him become elected nor did President Garfield appoint his assassin to an ambassadorship. And don't forget the countless attempted assassinations on other presidents' lives.

Wait a second!!!! - Obama did not win in a land slide- he won 52% of the Popular vote which means that about 1/2 of America did not vote for him.

Gee, I might have had to piss out on the bay of pigs too, if I was humping Marilyn Monroe, LOL. I seldom saw the Yankee Clipper without a smile. I really don't think we will ever know the true reason that Kennedy was killed. I think it was a combination of things, a few of which were being young, catholic, and charismatic. Another being that I am not positive that LBJ wasn't involved in a conspiracy with the CIA Who the heck knows or has much concern anymore.

Politicians know when they're buried, but what's a landslide?"First, the easy ones: The 1936 election, where Franklin Delano Roosevelt beat Alf Landon 523 to 8 in the electoral vote and 61 percent to 37 percent in the popular vote, was definitely a landslide."www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/politics/wire/sns-ap-landslides,1,4308684.story

Being a very strong supporter of Obama right from the start I have already seen the change he wants to bring us. Just in this election he accomplished that. He brought out a very large amount of voters. He got many, many young people to register, take interest and take part in this historical election and what is happening in their country. The most important change I witnessed was he brought all people together no matter what race they were, what religion they practice or what political party they belong to. That is a hugh change in my book. I supported him and I have faith in him because no one handed him anything on a silver platter and he fulfilled the "American Dream," that anyone can become President if they work hard enough for the right future. He gave all people something to believe in. That is a change. And Dave, don't give up on seeing a change in your lifetime, because I bet you never thought you'd see a black man as President in your lifetime either. Keep the faith my friend!!!!!
