I wanted to stay out of this but I can't any longer. The way this is all going down reeks of politics. What is really criminal is the salary Al Candido is being paid for riding on Picentes coattails. I am very disappointed, as are many other LE members of the LE community, as to the stance Al has taken towards police, a complete about face of support. It would not surprise me in l the least that LaBella is behind some of this along with his morning coffee cronies. Politics is in fact a ruthless game of which I am aware of, but to pull in hard working dedicated employees just to make a point or to try to tarnish ones reputation or image, is in my opinion, below the belt. I call it desperation on their part. I always say "Every dog has there day, some just have to wait a little longer than others". Their days are coming and are numbered, I believe. This woman is a very hard working individual and does spend alot of hours on the payroll. She spends weekends at the office to make sure it gets done. It boils down to the system that the county uses which is complicated and tedious. If another person was hired then they would bitch about the money being spent to have that person assist with payroll. This is pure political BS and if it wasn't then Picente would name the other nine people that are in the same boat. And the Observer Disgrace is another story.......this happens to take the spin and heat of Donna's kid so lets run with it. BULLSHIT ON THE WHOLE DEAL and they wonder why people are leaving in droves.

Well said wcup102! Picente must be held accountable on this one and should not be able to walk away. Fair is fair, and this is a witch-hunt for the Sheriff's Office.

I have just read a local news article regarding Picente's proposed tax increase. I must admit after reading this I am very upset, and MAD. Mr. Picente seems as though he is taking a personal vendetta against the men and women of the Sheriff's Department, and it is being played out through the local media. I find it quite obvious what he and his high paid secretary Al Candido are trying to do, they are on a witch hunt because of several reasons. One being the Sheriff got his raise, two being the PBA wont settle for the peanuts they are being offered for salary.
Why is this being allowed to happen?? Why is Picente proposing a separate department under his control to take care of the several different law enforcements agencies in the area. Is this not a duplication of services? Does Al Candido think he is still a cop and wants his hands in the pot. Does Picente think it is appropriate to spend 50,000 dollars on this foolish and ill thought out debacle? Why doesn't he do away with Al Candido's position and save the taxpayers 80,000.00 dollars, he is getting a retirement from the City of Utica!!!

I am asking for your assistance in making sure that this County Executive and his witch hunt are called out for the blatant disregard that he has for this Sheriff's department and its members. Not once did he mention the PBA contract that going to arbitration looming ahead. He does not care about those people or their families. Why isn't such a big deal made in the media about the nine other employees ?? This is shock reporting by the local media, orchestrated by Picente trying to be Jerry Springer!
Mr. Tanoury, I am asking for your help in rectifying this terrible injustice being brought down by the 10th foor..

Right on lefty!!! Great post! I am sure that Larry will be working toward that end and working diligently to make sure any wrongdoing is exposed to the taxpayers of the county. I agree with you that the wrongdoing is not at the level of the sheriff and his secretary. It would be next to impossible for this amount of money to be paid in overtime without SOMEBODY pointing it out before now.

If Middaugh wants to stick to his claim that "I had approval" why doesn't he come up with some evidence that he even asked the question? If I had permission to over-ride a county law, I would damn sure have kept a copy of the permission.
This sounds a lot like "the sun was in my eyes" while driving south at sunset.
This is just another example of bad management throughout the county government. Folks, we can't afford this any longer.
