I am glad you are able to blame the republicans for the entire financial crisis. I love that "republican crony thing." Are you under the delusion that there are no cronies on the Dem side of politics? One would have to go a long way to find anyone any more corrupt than the Kennedy family. Who do you think donors to democrats are? Do you think that they fund their campaigns selling cookies and lemonade? The democrat political machine has ALWAYS been equally known for it's corruption. One doesn't have to look far if they are familiar with Utica NY's political history. It's not Democrats who are using the poor, the middle class, veterans & seniors on fixed incomes as pawns in their little game to cut programs that they don't have the spine to enact thru legislation because voter's will retaliate at the polls. Let them ask their pals at the yacht club & country club to take a hit.

Plenty of spending cuts can be made without doing it on the backs of the poor and working poor. Hey a 25% cut in pay for every member of Congress. End the loophole that the wealthy use to avoid paying high taxes. Federal taxation of all properties that includes religious institutions. McCarthy wants to stick HIS plan up the backends of the poor and working poor. Why take away from them or require work for those receiving of all things Medicaid and or SNAP and I bet HEAP. If Biden cannot prevent that from happening then either default or he can use the 14th Amendment. The negotiating team for McCarthy said today that the talks have now stalled. You're damn right PB. It's high time these non profits including "religious" institutions started to pay up. They want to get involved in politics? Fine. Start paying up.

The irony in all of this is that the USA is set to receive thousands even millions of migrants especially those from South America. That Country has gone to hell and it is best to just get out if you live there. Now the question who pays the bill for housing them and feeding them and for there basic needs. In New York State the talk going on with Hochul plan to : house : them in SUNY campuses and even to : house : them in empty prisons. Who pays the bill for that Miss Gov.
I can just see thousands of migrants being housed at the closed Oneida Correction Facility. LOL
Come to the USA and be sent to prison.....what a plan

There would be plenty of money if we, as a country, stopped funding every overseas "adventure" or debacle that pops up. Stop funding every pork barrel BS that wanders into budgets that are already too big from stupid shit groups, organizations, county, state & favored NFP groups that in reality contribute absolutely nothing and usually cause more trouble than they are worth.

No moves yet with this debt default but the did agree to not allow the USA to go into default!!!! I winder if that means the Republicans will accept Biden taking the 14th Amendment as a way to save face.

Let it go into default. Screw 'em. This is what Trump, MacCarthy & their goon squad in the HOR want. This has nothing to do with the defecit, it's all about making Biden look bad using extortion tactics. Trump & his mob during the four years that they were in power are responsible for 25% of the trillions of dollars in debt this country is carrying. That's right in FOUR years & they have the gall to whine about the defecit? The hypocrisy of that crew is appalling.

The dialog going on between both groups in interesting. McCarthy and a few others said the White House is dug in on its demands. But doesn't that also mean that the Republicans are also dug in with their demands.

McCarthy spoke to the press today & his rants went from attacking Biden & Dems to him whining like a petulant child. The problem with McCarthy is that his butt is owned by the psycho caucus led by MTG who will boot his azz out as speaker in a heartbeat if he doesn't do their bidding which is to default. The Country's entire economy is in the hands of a bunch of deranged nitwits.

I read earlier that Congress will be taking a recess for Memorial Day. I cannot believe they are doing that. I am losing all my faith in our political misleaders. If they do recess that will make Memorial Day far less memorial.

McCarthy, as speaker of the GOP nut House of ill repute is the one who called a holiday recess. He needs to return home & see if he can find a pair.

Congress must address debt ceiling by June 5, Yellen warns Tami Luhby By Tami Luhby, CNN Updated 5:40 PM EDT, Fri May 26, 2023 CNN — If Congress does not address the debt ceiling by June 5, the US Treasury Department will not have enough funds to pay all of the nation’s obligations in full and on time, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Friday. “Based on the most recent available data, we now estimate that Treasury will have insufficient resources to satisfy the government’s obligations if Congress has not raised or suspended the debt limit by June 5,” she wrote in a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other congressional leaders. The latest missive comes as President Joe Biden and House Republicans continue to try to hammer out a deal to address the debt ceiling before the US defaults on its obligations, which would wreak havoc on the global economy and financial system. Negotiators are moving closer to an agreement, but several sticking points remain, including the size of spending cuts and broadening of work requirements in safety net programs. The new deadline gives the president and lawmakers a few more days to craft a package. Until now, Yellen has been warning Congress that the so-called X-date, when the US would be unable to satisfy all its obligations, would likely arrive in early June – and as soon as June 1. Earlier this week, she said she would try to give lawmakers a more precise date. Some Republicans in Congress have been questioning Yellen’s projections, particularly the potential June 1 deadline, saying she should be more transparent in her forecasts. Big bills coming due
Treasury will send out more than $130 billion in payments in the first two days of June, including ones to veterans and Social Security and Medicare recipients. This will leave the agency with “an extremely low level of resources,” Yellen wrote.
During the week of June 5, Treasury is scheduled to make an estimated $92 billion of payments and transfers – but it projects that it will not have the resources to meet all these obligations, she continued.
Ever since the US hit its borrowing cap in January, Treasury has been forced to rely on cash and extraordinary measures to pay the bills until Congress either raises or suspends the debt ceiling. The agency had $38.8 billion of cash on hand, as of Thursday, according to federal data. The amount bounces around as Treasury takes in revenue and makes payments, but the balance has declined from $238.5 billion at the start of the month, when the coffers were relatively flush from tax collections in April. Treasury had about $67 billion remaining in extraordinary measures as of Wednesday, down from around $220 billion at the end of January. Yellen’s new estimate is in line with projections from other groups, including the Congressional Budget Office. Many have said the X-date will likely fall in early June. This story has been updated with additional information. www.cnn.com/2023/05/26/politics/janet-yellen-debt-ceiling-default/index.htmlMaybe the idiots in Congress can get a loan from Russia and China. I wonder will Ukraine pay back the billions of dollars the Congressional idiots is sending over in aid one way or the other. I doubt it and I think we will also help greatly to help Ukraine rebuild itself.

If a loan from China or Russia is needed it is quite probably that Joe Biden and his son Hunter would be the most likely to succeed in acquiring the money.

They came to an agreement on the debt ceiling and now are patting each other on the back for a job well done, LOL. Hopefully this charade will get them thinking to drop this silly way of doing business and get rid of the debt ceiling concept once and for all.
At least able bodied single persons on SNAP will need to continue the work requirement of 20 hours a week from age 18 to not 54. It went up a few more years. Why not just make it 65. Still a no on work requirements for those on Medicaid.
