Wonderful. Not! It's going to be the heavy wet stuff which is a bear to clear out plus possible tree & power line damage. I went this morning & bought gas for the snowblower. Ugh!

Wonderful. Not! It's going to be the heavy wet stuff which is a bear to clear out plus possible tree & power line damage. I went this morning & bought gas for the snowblower. Ugh! That's good. Nothing like a heavy wet snow to plug the chute on the blower making it necessary to shut it down and unplug the chute. It also makes it very hard to shovel the heavy snow from areas where you can't use the blower. We had a 10x16 deck that had to be shoveled off when it snowed. Here's hoping that there is no power outages. We played that game not too many weeks ago and were ready to move to the motorhome by the time it finally came back on. Winter weather makes outages and loss of heating systems dangerous.

We have a 10x20 deck to shovel off which I did yesterday after the snow Fri/Sat. We may get 16-24" of the stuff & it looks like we may get more next weekend. Wth.

Thank goodness for All-Wheel-Vehicle SUV's. I saw all the closings on Channel 2's website. How much have you actually gotten and how much more is expected? Does the AWD work really well in the snow? Our Equinox has AWD but I have never engaged it as of yet. We have flurries and 30 degrees. Typical March changeable weather. T-shirt last week. My face and arms started to tan while working outside. Today? A winter coat, wool ski hat and scarf while taking out the dog and taking the trash bin to the road for pickup. Stay safe and stay warm. Nothing brings you back to reality after that warm spell like a nor'easter.

Well, it's here! Doesn't look like a lot, but it's wet and heavy.
Clipper, The AWD is great when it's a bit slick out, but for heavy snow, there's nothing like just switching it into 4WD. AWD kicks in when the vehicle senses the tires slipping, and 4WD is just digging all the time. Nice to have a selection, as I wouldn't want to drive it in 4WD all the time as it does use more gas.

Well at least this day 3/14 has meaning.
The roundest knight at King Arthur’s table was Sir Cumference. He ate too much pi.
Happy Pi Day!!!

My apartment faces a wooded area and right now the heavy snow on all the trees cause the branches on the trees to bend in homage to Father Winter. Really a beautiful and inspiring sight. this is the closest to reality I can find

I seldom used the 4WD on my last couple of trucks. We had use it occasionally when we came North for Christmas, but in later years I only remember using it a couple of times when we had the pontoon boat to pull the boat out on a sandy wet ramp. The 2016 only saw 4WD once that I can remember. I bought a load of firewood and had to load it off-road in the guy's woodlot. When I was leaving I had to climb a fairly steep hill on wet grass to get out of there and started to spin.
I sincerely hope that we don't have to worry about snow deep enough here to need for the tires to "dig."

I would miss my 4WD if we lived in snow country, but the little car only has AWD. Hopefully we won't ever have a need for 4WD. I seldom used it on any of my trucks in later years. I used 4WD a few times when we were still coming North for Christmas.

We haven't gotten really blasted since I bought the SUV, but I used the AWD a couple of times just to try it out. I didn't notice much difference, but I'm sure I'll need it for the snow that's here now. We'll see.
I was told by the chevy dealership that when not needed, disengaging the AWD will have a minimal effect on fuel mileage. We have a button on the console to turn it on and off. Do most manufacturers allow for turning it on and off, or is it constantly on in some models?
I wonder if there is any advantage to using AWD when driving in a heavy rain at highway speed. I find it doubtful that it would make much difference in a hydroplaning situation. I was never terribly concerned with the heavy truck with a rather aggressive all weather tire, but with the light weight and less aggressive tread pattern on the little car I am more aware of the possibility of hydroplaning.
