Thanks for the history lesson, Kit. I had forgotten some of it. I think the rent increase was driven by increasing heating costs for the most part. I was just in the kitchen of that building a couple weeks ago. My wife volunteered me to be part of a clean-up crew. As a guy I was automatically disqualified from any actual cleaning and limited to tasks like lifting and hauling. Four women plus some dumb labor had the cabinets cleaned, floor mopped and everything spotless in about 40 minutes.

The idea that this is "one region" is why Utica has been been getting screwed over royally for the past 30 years. The first shot was when they stole Utica's water system & turned it into an Authority that is robbing us blind, then the practice of luring businesses out of Utica to move to Griffis, negatively affecting our tax base & the jobs that moved out of Utica. Or how about Picente sticking Utica taxpayer's with the majority cost of funding MVCC even though it's a county asset? Yea, it's "one region" but Utica gets the sh*t end of the stick every time we turn around. Utica is the county seat but you wouldn't know it by the actions of some so called leaders. I have to wonder what the quality of services is at Rome's Ava Dorfman Senior Center and what the center may have grown into over the years. I was Ava's requested driver when I drove the CNY Coach Lines in the 70s. I don't know if they offered meals or not. They used to take numerous bus trips to NYC or the Christmas show at Radio City and shopping, Latham Mall, the Finger Lakes area, and I drove for her once on a Shrine Tour to Quebec City, Ste Ann de Beupre and Montreal. Do the Utica programs offer trips and activities equal to those offered in Rome? Rome DOES seem to be on the receiving end of programs and benefits to a larger extent than the Utica/NH area, yet with all that Rome is receiving, I read every day about someone bitching about the city. Even without the base, the city seems to be thriving and doing quite well.

Rome has left Utica far behind. They can build all the hotels they want on the north side & their new hospital, but that won't change the conditions of parts of east & west Utica which are a disgrace. Not too mention that probably 50% of the streets in this city are practically undriveable. There's potholes on my street that have been there for 5 years, they fill them with cold patch in the spring, which is useless.
