www.wktv.com/archive/rome-man-accused-of-stealing-7-guns-from-building-where-he-was-working/article_a1e45835-e72a-5a32-8bf7-f95f5c2b278d.htmlWhile it doesn't excuse the behavior of the thieving scumbag who stole the weapons, it leaves me wondering why a gun owner would leave that many handguns unattended in a place where they could be accessed and stolen. It is sad that one has to worry about thieves to begin with, but I think I would have removed the handguns from the site or at least locked them away in a secure place while the workers were coming and going freely. I would be curious as to the circumstances and where the guns were stored. I hope that the guns were recovered and that the thief will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Obviously The days of proudly displaying a person's guns in a glass fronted, lighted gun cabinet are gone. A person might as well put the cabinet on the front porch with a sign saying "Free, take one." I recently purchased a .380 pistol from a friend. With stolen handguns being such a hot commodity among thieves, and two handguns in the house, I keep the second gun in our safe as opposed to tucked in a dresser drawer. I would feel terrible if one of them was stolen and used to shoot someone during the commission of a crime. Even those of us who are strong proponents of the second amendment, have to be aware that along with the right to keep and bear arms comes a deep responsibility to keep them safely out of the hands of children and criminals.

My brother took all of his guns out of the display case for the same reason, Clipper! I have sold most of my long guns since I stopped hunting. I only have a couple rifles left and they are stored with trigger locks and in a locked gun cabinet with a glass door for what it is worth. I used to have the cabinet filled and it holds 8 rifles. At least if stolen, long guns are not usually involved in crime as often as they are just stolen to be sold to a pawn shop or sold to a hunter. Unfortunately when a hand gun is stolen, it is quite often used in a crime at one time or another, and if it is registered to you, they are going to be knocking on your door with questions.

A lot of guns being used by these thugs are "ghost guns". Some money grubbing lowlife thought it was a good idea to sell online plans to build these guns & the parts to do it. Now, anyone can build one & the disclaimer that says these guns must be registered, is about as usefull in deterring some thug from carrying one as a straw hat at the North Pole in January.
The UPD is confiscating those weapons all the time from these punks who are carrying them & shooting people.
