This reminds me of a story in Lansing, MI. A cop shot himself. Rather than fess up to this, the white cop claimed that a hooded black man shot him. Half the city was marked off as officers from three different police departments launched a 6-hour manhunt. Two weeks after as the search yielded nothing, and "sketches" were posted everywhere, the news broke out that the cop made up the story.
It's disgusting to hear about these fabricated stories.

I don't think the initial press release from the police department actually mentioned if the "assailants" were black or not. That leads me to believe they already had doubts about her story.

No, the initial report in the paper and at WKTV were both very vague. The mention of race only came in with tonights reports.
