The O-D competed in the 25,000-50,000 circulation category.
That would put it with the Pennysaver and Mid-York Sports (no offense Fred Miller)
SPOT NEWS: for its on line and print coverage of the May 29 blaze at Utica’s historic brewery, including ...the impact on the business, neighbors and beer sales.
Sport News?!?!?
BUSINESS/FINANCE: ....reporter in 2007, earned first place for ....stories on the state’s Empire Zones program. Parrish explored how many companies are no’t meeting job goals and whether application of the tax breaks is fair.
Weren't most of the businesses cleared of the charges made within a week of this story?
CONTINUING COVERAGE: A three-part series last winter examined the incident’s causes.
Personally I will give them this one. From what I remember it was pretty good and got allot of political fires going.
EDITORIALS: Viewpoints Editor Dave Dudajek won first place for multiple editorials last winter urging action by the state and local agencies to prevent a recurrence of the Hinckley Reservoir problems.
I'll give Dave this one. He did a big article in 1992 on my wife and I on my first Father's Day with Squirt92 (my daughter). Suppose I should plead neutral on this one.
DEPTH REPORTING: Oneida County’s lead-poisoning problem, Upstate New York’s worst.
From a guy who was raised in a house with lead pipes, paint, and father who pumped lead gas, I really couldn't get excited reading that expose.
BEAT REPORTING:
I'll leave that one to you current Utica residents. This native Utican kinda likes to stay out of those discussions as you might have noticed.
Administrator: I tried with effort to avoid any copy right offences by snipping as much as possible.

Uh, Wilum That was "Spot" news not "Sport" news, but it does make for some bizarre mental images of games to play in a burning building
