Most of Upstate NY will be spared wrath of Hurricane Henri Syracuse, N.Y. -- Hurricane Henri will likely slam the southeastern corner of New York state but spare the rest of Upstate. Potentially flooding rain is forecast for the Catskills and Lower Hudson Valley, where as much as 5 inches of rain could fall starting this afternoon. The Capital Region could get 3 inches. “Heavy rain resulting in flash and river flooding will be the main hazards today as Henri makes landfall as a tropical storm in southern New England,” the National Weather Service office in Albany said. Impacts from the coastal storm drop off sharply to the west and north. Utica is forecast to get 1 to 1.5 inches of rain, and Syracuse less than a quarter of an inch. Henri’s projected track had begun drifting west on Saturday, raising flooding concerns for already saturated Central New York, but the hurricane sped up and shifted slightly east during computer model runs on Saturday. The worst effects will be felt on Long Island and the southern New England coast. Hurricane warnings have been issued for Long island, Connecticut and Rhode Island. www.syracuse.com/weather/2021/08/most-of-upstate-ny-will-be-spared-wrath-of-hurricane-henri.htmlLets hope.
