www.wktv.com/news/local/26363544.htmlSo what happens to the original person and family that the monument was dedicated to? I don't understand how they just take that honor away from someone. Does anyone know how this works because right now it seems wrong and nothing I would want a part in.

You mean General Herkimer?- He lead the militia during the Battle of Oriskany (the bloodiest battle of the American Revolution) and died from his wounds.- Well technically because of the amputation of his leg.
Essentially there are makers showing the entire route he took from his home (outside little falls- its a State Historic Site to the Oriskany Battlefield).
I believe that the maker was moved originally because of construction in the area, and because it was worn out, but am not sure about the exact details.

O and General Herkimer was married twice: first to a Maria Dygert (who died) and then to Maria Dygert. He had no children (that we know of ). And no thats not a type-o: the first Maria was the seconds aunt.

Huh?
"Revolutionary War monument on Whitesboro Street of General Herkimer's historic march."
Where on Whitesboro Street? What makes the DAR think that General Herkimer and his men took a route near Whitesboro Street? Seems to me that they would've followed the water for a time, wouldn't they?
For the life of me I can't place that picture on the WKTV article.

He was following the road that went on the south side of the river. Because of the flood plain and swampiness of the area the road had to be farther back from the river.
Using some older maps overlayed onto some modern maps we are able to get a pretty good idea of where that road was.- Not completely exact but close enough. And I'm not too sure where that marker is.
