update:
NEW YORK (WSYR-TV) — State Police Dispatchers told NewsChannel 9 that an ambulance was stolen from Kunkel Ambulance in Utica Sunday morning.
Around 10:42 a.m. State Police on the Thruway attempted to stop the stolen ambulance and the operator refused to comply and the pursuit was terminated by State Police, officials said.
Troopers located the stolen ambulance on I-490 westbound in Rochester and attempted to stop as the operator exited I-490 at Culver Road, they said. The pursuit was again terminated by State Police.
The driver went down Seneca Road in Irondequoit, a suburb of Rochester, and launched into the Irondequoit Bay from the boat launch, police at the scene said.
State Police say the operator of the ambulance was able to swim to a private vessel and was then taken into custody by police.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Dive Team was called to help retrieve the submerged ambulance, officials say. The operator was given medical attention at the scene by Irondequoit Ambulance and charges are pending.

Unbelievable. Sort of hard to keep a low profile and get very far with a bright orange and white vehicle with Kunkel in letters about 3 feet high down both sides of it. I would say if it was in water deep enough to require divers to recover it there will be very little in the line of electronics and medical equipment that will be able to be salvaged. An expensive incident for Kunkel.
It is not unusual to see an ambulance left running at the ambulance entrance at a hospital or at the scene of a call, depending on what sort of call and where it is. Usually the ambulance is left running at the scene of an accident or similar call because if the emergency lights are left on the vehicle needs to run to keep the alternator cranking so the battery doesn't die. When I worked for Hinckley and Wurz we were at the scene of an accident on N. Genny one night and Phil Gulla from Beacon Body had to jump the ambulance because due to the fact that the motorcycle accident victim was laying in the road and we just jumped out, grabbed our gear and went to the aid of the patient without setting the high idle on the ambulance.
I just saw in the OD the other day that Phil's son, Phil Jr. passed away. Very sad indeed. He was a great kid and 46 is too young to pass on. He was an excellent body person. He repaired deer damage on my ex-wife's car back in the mid nineties when he was first working with his dad, and when he was done the paint was matched and blended so that one would never know there had been an accident. I don't think he was much over 20 at the time.

Hey we got enough criminals of our own here. Keep yours in Utica. They just opened that boat launch after remodeling it.

Hey we got enough criminals of our own here. Keep yours in Utica. They just opened that boat launch after remodeling it. SO. How did that new launch work out? Was she able to effectively and easily launch that ambulance? I am left to wonder how she ever managed to get all the way to Rochester. Of course if she figured out the emergency lights and siren I suppose people got out of her way and made the pursuit more difficult for the police. On the upside, that most likely allowed her to get through the Rochester traffic without colliding with anyone. www.wktv.com/content/news/Woman-leads-police-on-chase-from-Utica-to-Rochester-with-stolen-ambulance--574624881.html

They haven't posted any pictures of her or reason why she would steal an ambulance.

That little joy ride will cost her a few years in the slammer depending on whether or not she has a record or she's just a nut case. I heard she's from Buffalo but I'm not sure about that. The ambulance is toast & probably worth $100,000?
