I knew that there were gangs and gang activity in the city but I didn't know that there were 37 identified gangs wandering your streets. It seems as though there is a gang for each and every ethnic group in the city, and a few extra thrown in for those that don't specifically belong to one of them simply as a manner by which a person is able to find "safety in numbers" against the other gangs.
I may be naive but I can only remember a very limited number of large gang style fights that occurred during my teen years. There was one occasion in my early teens when a group from UFA for some reason came to a Whitesboro dance and a fight ensued that escalated to a point where it involved 15 or 20 kids and local cops and sheriff's deputies had to be summoned to break it up. I don't remember ever hearing of any of the teens carrying handguns. Switchblade knives were the ultimate illegal weapon carried by teen bad asses back then.
I am sure that we have our share of gangs here in our area, but we seldom hear of any activity that is specifically attributed to any designated and particular gang. It may just be that the police don't share their information with the public. We do have our own share of drug related shootings and illegal guns found during traffic stops and drug busts although I have never heard of any incidents that were specifically described as being turf related. These rednecks down here lean more toward drug related robberies, road rage, and domestic disputes.
