Well here is my first post. Park Row Books in Clinton (on Park Row, go figure) is an independent bookseller. Only thing is, they are extremely small and have very little in stock. They are a good place to go to for local authors, though, AND they carry teacher supplies now (which has made the store even smaller). They used to own the teacher supply store Red Apple, but that closed and now all that inventory is at Park Row.
They have really been able to hold their own, though, through several different owners and several major bookseller competitors. They must be doing something right.

Oh and there is also the used bookstore up on 12B either in or towards Deansboro. I haven't been that way in a while so I forget what it's called. Someone said something about Berry or Berry Hill and that sounds right to me also, though that is not the entire proper name. I think they might have been featured on Mohawk Valley Living once. I've never been there.

Welcome to the forum Positivethinker. As I stated yesterday in one of the Welcome Posts, I have been kinda out of the action with broken ribs. I am glad that you chose to become part of the "family" here at Clipper's Busy Corner. We have a good time, and we get some very intelligent and informative discussion from a well rounded membership.
We cut up and have a good time, and joke around, but there is also a balance of serious discussion of important issues.
Thanks for the information on Park Row Books. I didn't know if it was still there or not, and it was me that remembered the book shop on the right hand side of Rt. 12B near Deansboro.
Sorry I wasn't the first to welcome you, but we are glad to have you with us. Have fun, and post often.

That's good info, Pos, and I'll look for these stores next time I'm in the area. Deansboro ... haven't been there in years. When I come up, I'll just stay on Rte. 20, then over Sanger Hill and up 12 B.

Dave, I was thinking originally that the "berry hill" bookstore or whatever it is called was between Clinton and Deansboro, but in re-thinking the issue, I think is is just west of Deansboro on the right hand side of the road, between the trailer park and the stone quarry. Not positive, but I think that is where it is located.

The last really cool bookstore I was in was in Rhode Island back in 1996! And it's not there anymore...they've changed their business mode and I guess they do things as a mobile store now...they no longer have a storefront. I know this because I recently came across their website while looking for something else and emailed the owner because I actually remembered him, and thought he was a neat guy. I was happy that he replied to my email! Anyway, those of you who know me might find this funny...it wasn't a 'normal' bookstore...it was actually a 12-step type recovery bookstore! I found it one day while walking randomly around a town in RI, killing time before I had to do something else, and decided to pop in for a cup of coffee. There were some really cool people hanging out there. To this day, despite the fact that the owner was the only guy whose name I remembered, I'll never forget the people who were there.

People in recovery often act more real and present.

Yeah, some of 'em. :-) And then there was the one who, probably about 15 years ago, decided to keep buying me drink after drink after drink...I think it was amusing him because I kept accepting them! Geeez, I was sick the next day. :-o

Don't be naive Kim. He had more in mind than being amused buying you drinks, haha! You foiled that plot by being able to hold your liguor, LOL. He is probably still cruising the bars, and buying drinks, except now he has Rufies on his side.

Hehe...actually, no...I don't think he hangs out at bars at all...he was just in a band that was playing at that bar, and we went to hear them play quite often. It wasn't that I couldn't handle it...I had something like 15 beers in about 2 hours, and I was eating chocolate cake at the same time. Blah!

I love books, can't stand reading stuff on-line that was meant to be in print..........something insulting in it I guess.
Anyways......I have been buying books on eBay now for several years. I have never had a book that looked "used" at all on there, despite that fact they are sold as such most of the time. Even the paperbacks I have gotten were in stunning shape!
And nowhere near Amazon's price either. Most cost me more for S/H than they did for the book.

I haven't bought very many via eBay. After Amazon's "second hand seller" thing started, I began to buy only used and for ridiculously low prices. Sometimes, one cent!

In a previous post, I pointed out the "Berry Hill Bookstore" on the road to Oriskany Falls from Clinton.
Interestingly enough, it has showed up in an interesting post on the unadilla ramblings blog at http:/unadillaramblings.blogspot.com
There is an interesting narrative and directions to the store, as well as photos. Sounds like a place I will visit when I am in the area at Christmas. Check it out at the link shown above.
