BHU, do you have anything to support that? Was the equipment taken off-line being used? Were the parts used to repair other equipment? Mail volumes are way down for 1st class mail.
I see it in my own household. Barb is one of those people who always sends cards. She used to spend hours to find the right card to send someone. Now she spends those hours finding the right video card to send. At one time I bought a book of stamps every week. Now that book lasts 2-3 months.

CB, it's been reported in the news media via postal workers that those sorters were taken out of service & some were destroyed. DeJoy wanted to remove more but backed off at least for now because of the controversy. It's beyond me how backing up mail is going to encourage people to use or fix the P.O. The P.O hasen't turned a profit in decades but all of a sudden because of mail in voting the cutbacks begin. It's not too obvious what's going on which is ballots which are late won't be counted. And accusations of voter fraud is one of the biggest lies ever perpetrated on the American people. IMHO.

I really don't see where the cutbacks are "just now starting." The post office has been routinely making changes and cutting and consolidating sorting centers and eliminating personnel positions for years. It seems that it has just now become a political issue with the possibility of flaws and opportunities for fraud and tampering. In my 25 yrs working for the government there were many years when RIF's (reductions in force) took place. They simply called it "doing more with less" and it pertained to personnel as well as budget dollars.
If it is true that there is a D or an R in the coding on the back of the ballot mailing packet what IS to keep ballots from one party or the other from being discarded or "lost" and not counted? That could become a very valid problem. When THIS election is over and in the history books, it IS time for EVERYONE, regardless of their living situation to obtain a legally accepted form of photo ID before the next major election so that a person can be required to show identification in order to vote. We have to show ID in order to buy tobacco products or alcoholic beverages. We have to show ID in order to pick up a prescription from the pharmacy or cash a check. What is the big deal about having to show proper identification in order to enter a polling place or cast you vote in an election. Any future voting by mail-in ballots needs to have more controls and tracking like that presently used with issuing and receiving back completed absentee ballots. Sending out ballots in a bulk mailing is rife with chances for screw ups.
In todays sad and divided political world, it is no wonder that there is suspicion of the possibility of tampering or cheating by BOTH parties. There WAS a time when even the most contested election could be conducted with reasonable certainty that however contentious, the election would be conducted with integrity by all concerned.

I don't believe that poll workers will discard or lose ballots marked for one party or the other. I just don't believe it.
