Ralph, I'll try to give you a call tomorrow. I have a root canal at 1pm, a special caucus meeting at 4pm and the County Executive is holding his "special" public hearing on the FBO contract at Griffiss at 5pm. I should be pretty beat by then (considering I'm still up at 3am) but I will try to call in the evening or I'll stop over on Wednsday.
Or you could give me a shout and let me know what's good for you...534-8067 (no prank calls Clipper, LOL).

Just for the record, everyone needs to keep in mind that EDGE is not a "public" entity or NFP. They are a PRIVATE organization, not a County, State or Federal sponsored or funded entity or NFP. Essential what the legislation does every year is to contract with them to help us in the economic development sector. Well, that would explain a lot. For example, EDGE's director is not compelled to offer any information to Larry any more than any other businessman. He's simply a contractor. He obviously feels responsible only to the legislature and not the voters. It would be like Larry asking to see my business records if I provided Oneida County with my business services. A slippery slope, among other things, and maybe the reason why lawmakers are not interested in airing the issue. They may have propped this guy up as a mock county function and now the are embarrassed that Larry has exposed how little oversight exists.

My thoughts exactly Dave.
People are mistaking this for the same relationship the City and Utica's Urban Renewal Dept. have The City's NFP actually belongs to the City, but EDGE is totally private.
And you are right; other than following the law and terms of the contract, they are beholden to no one.

But the contract should have contained terms that required better accountability...

Swimmy, if I have all of this straight, Larry's legislation would require an annual accounting by EDGE. He said in the "Wednesday's Committee Meeting" thread, that city lawyers had told him such would violate their contract with EDGE, but Larry had also submitted legislation to amend the contract, which he maintains has been done with other contracts in the past and is perfectly legal. So at this point, I don't think anyone is sure what is in the contract. Whew! As a citizen (if I were), I couldn't see a city contract? Maybe Larry has done so now.
Ralph, elsewhere Larry stated he thought EDGE was a 501C3. You can tell us what that means.

This is why I was opposed to entering into the contract in the first place. But there isn't enough coverage on these things "before" they happen, and then years later when it all goes south, the elected "leaders" say it was a "learning" experience, when in fact they never learned a thing from it.
Perfect example is the contract that the County Executive is pushing through the Legislature now. It is with a private LLC to operate the FBO operations at Griffiss. I have to run to a meeting, but I will have a full post on this topic and last night's public hearing on it. This could be one the the biggest blunders in history if the Leg supports the contract as is. The OD did a terrible story on the public hearing and didn't do any justice for the taxpayers. I'll be back later to post something on the details, including the full copy of a statement released by the Oneida County Aviation Association.
