I can relate to that. When Barb was a working nurse there was more than once when I was worried about the people she was treating. Grand-daughter Gabby is currently studying to be a CNA. Her current rotation is at the St. Luke's ER. Today I had to bring her home from school because she was having trouble breathing. It takes a special person to be a nurse.

I hear ya CB, I have a daughter out in Pittsburgh that's an ER trauma nurse and a daughter-in-law locally that's one as well, but she works with the elderly. Neither of them in a "great" position at the moment, but they're all saints in my book. Whether in a hospital, the DMV, or whatever.........any job dealing with large amounts of the general public is pretty sketchy right now.

Talking about nurses I never said anything but I am also a LPN. Got that in Missouri while working in the nursing home that my religious community maintained. I remember one day I was working on the 3rd floor which was a locked floor with people who had various types of psychiatric problems. I seemed to always take care of one man who was in his late 40's that for some reason took a liking to me. He attempted suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning and his wife dragged him out of his car before he died but not before some serious brain damage incurred. He walked up to me one afternoon and looked right into my eyes and said hey Bro. I feel like my insides are going to come out. And then they did. Largest liquid bowel movement I ever saw and him and I were standing right in the middle. And guess what. I had sandals on. Luckily he was close to the large shower room so I picked him up by his arm pits and carried him into a shower. What a mess. He made my day. LOL

Her current rotation is at the St. Luke's ER. Today I had to bring her home from school because she was having trouble breathing. It takes a special person to be a nurse. How is Gabby doing today? What was causing her breathing problems? If I were scheduled to work in an ER I would probably experienced difficulty breathing from simply anxiety alone. I went to the bowling alley last night to watch my team bowl. I have thus far not bowled. It would probably be fine, but I have opted to wait until I actually receive word from my doctor that I am released to do so. I am probably a bit over cautious and paranoid, but I just feel safer having his blessing before I spend 2 1/2 hours, strenuously exerting my upper body muscles by repeatedly slinging a 14lb missile down a 60 foot bowling lane at 16 or 18 mph. It has only actually been 2 weeks today since the second of two procedures that were performed two days in a row. Everyone wanted to welcome me back and shake my hand. I must have washed my hands 5 or 6 times in the time I was there and grabbed a squirt of purell every time I passed one of the several automatic dispensers. I feel quite well but the emotional trauma of having the first attempt to place a stent unsuccessful, and having to wonder if I would wake up after the next attempt with a successful angioplasty, would wake up recovering from a bypass surgery, or might not wake up at all, has left me a somewhat over cautious for now. The urgency the doctor showed, in that he was going to take me directly from the cath lab to surgery rather than scheduling the surgery for another day really scared the crap out of me. I certainly don't need to be catching the flu or any respiratory crap at this point. I have had enough time laying around in a sick bed to last me for quite some time. I hope that Gabby is feeling better today and isn't exposed to anyone with the flu or anything easily communicable during her practical training at the ER.

I haven't heard anything from Gabby today so I assume she is back in school. Anyone who works caring for patients needs good hand washing skills and a strong immune system. Gabby's mom and grandma are both RNs so she has people looking after her.

I was wondering if gloves can help. I realized today that I always wear my winter gloves getting on the Bus, while on the Bus and getting off the Bus but never wash them. So I started washing them at night when I get home. I also have some plastic gloves if I need them. I hope North Utica Walmart has sanitizer. Noticed today that people are starting to wear surgical masks on the Bus and in the CENTRO Bus Station. Some lady up front was coughing without covering her mouth and a few people moved to back of Bus while one person told the coughing lady off--which is not a good thing since with those who take the Bus one never knows how mentally stable they are. I wouldn't count on N.Utica Wal-Mart having sanitizer. I've been checking various retail stores online & nobody has it. Even Dollar General is out. I wanted to pick up some to carry in my truck & wife's car. The stuff is like gold right now.

I normally have a small bottle in my car but it's about 1/2 gone. I think I may try the recipe PB posted above.
