Supper will be interesting. Spaghetti with turkey meatballs and whole wheat pasta. Has anyone eaten the whole wheat pasta before? I am going to assume that after cooking the sauce the turkey meatballs should be pretty good, and as for the pasta, I imagine that covered with sauce a person would not notice any difference.

Whole wheat pasta was fine. No difference in flavor after the sauce is put on it. Turkey meatballs? Ehhh, not so good. Didn't like the texture and they were dry as hell. Kathy made them with fresh grated parmesan, bread crumbs, and enough fresh garlic to make an old Italian grandmother proud.
She had ground turkey left over so she made a couple of burger patties with it and froze them. I can't wait to taste THOSE beauties. I suppose if I slice an onion real thick and put a big slab on the burger along with a fist full of pickle slices and lots of ketchup I will be able to choke one down. I somehow can't get too excited about a turkey hamburger. Does anyone have any recipes using ground turkey that are half way palatable?
I think that I will be buying the 93% lean ground beef rather than the turkey for meatballs or burgers. Does anyone have any interesting and good tasting recipes made with ground turkey? I am thinking that chili would be ok with turkey. I think I will thaw those patties out and make a small batch of breakfast sausage with it. I should get about 4 breakfast sized sausage patties.

We had turkey burgers here last summer & they weren't bad. We mixed in a couple eggs, some bread crumbs & diced red onion & formed them into patties then cooked them on the grill. Some sliced tomato, lettuce & some mayo on a bun & they weren't half bad.

Yup had that on Sunday, Clipper. I use the Barilla Protein 100% Plant Based protein Spaghetti. It is made with Semolina(wheat), Durim wheat, Lentil flour, Pea flour, Chickpea flour, Barley flour, Spelt flour
If you make homemade meatballs with ground turkey besides some garlic add Italian seasoning and fresh parsley along with small amount of whole wheat bread crumbs or just a slice of dried wheat bread soaked in milk torn apart and a egg. You want the mixture wet but able to form a ball. Then fry or just add to sauce and let them cook.
Delicious.
I buy the frozen turkey burgers at Walmart. They have a regular and a flavored variety. I get the regular one and season with Montreal Chicken Seasoning.

I made breakfast today and Barb was halfway through her bacon when she remembered that this is Ash Wednesday. I asked what she wanted for dinner and she decided we are using one of her gift cards to eat out. I guess I am off the hook.

I have a few packages of thin whole wheat spaghetti that I eat now and then with my homemade tomato sauce. It has a slightly different taste than the usual white processed semolina flour and I'm liking it quite a bit, and supposedly it's better for me because it has more fiber. To be honest, having the same old white semolina pasta with the same old sauce and the same old garlic bread gets a bit boring and the different taste of the whole wheat pasta is quite refreshing for a change. I imagine eye-appeal has a lot to do with some people not liking it. Sad that they're not adventuresome.
Whole wheat pasta is also very good as 'Aglio e Alio' which is garlic and black pepper gently sauteed in olive oil. Mix in the pasta and serve with freshly grated Parmesan or Romano and that's a great dinner. Quick and simple (and no tomatoes).

I don't eat enough pasta for white pasta to have any major impact on my diet. I didn't notice much difference in the spaghetti with sauce. My next experiment will be whole wheat noodles in tuna noodle casserole. That may make a bit more noticeable difference in flavor. The main changes I am having to make in my diet are to limit red meat and animal protein, and to limit sodium intake. I am already a huge green veggie fan, and love a good green salad. My snacks use to be salty popcorn or pretzels but having not eaten any of that sort of thing lately, I have become satisfied with a couple of Halo mandarin oranges broken into segments or an apple peeled and cut in wedges if I feel the need to snack in the evening. I actually don't feel deprived as I thought I probably would. Nothing works like a good heart scare to convince a fat ass like myself that I don't need to sit in my chair in the evening and incessantly stuff oil soaked and salt laden unhealthy crap into my pie hole.

Never cared for the wheat pasta, although I'm sure that it's better for you than white. Even when cooked properly, to me it always tastes too "tough".

The nutritional difference between a serving if whole wheat pasta and white pasta is 4-6 grams of fiber. It is easy to get that from another source. What really matters is the profile of your diet not one ingredient of one meal. At one point in my life I charted everything I ate into a spread sheet which gave me data for both macro and micro nutrients. My goal at that point was weight loss and diabetes control.

I will eventually work out what is good for me. I am not so worried about carbs as I am sodium and transfats. I will watch carbs strictly for weight control, but the sodium and cholesterol is much more important at this point. I have been eating pretty well and have lost 15 pounds since Feb 13th without being hungry. Salty snacks and big fattening and high cholesterol breakfasts were my biggest downfall. I bought regular pasta today when I shopped and the doctor said if I want macaroni salad to just use as little mayo as we can and count that fat toward my daily limit.
Let's face it. I am not going to eat boneless chicken breasts and baked fish at every meal.

I could get a pair today but it would probably be quite some time before I could button them up and wear them, haha.

Just keep working on it clipper. If you can find this down there Walmart ( your fav. store) in the frozen Vegetable section has a Cauliflower pasta made like Gnocchi. It is excellent. I used that tonight when I made my Chicken Breast cacciatore. I did it using some Delmonte Stewed tomatoes and some pureed roasted red peppers. I make a Tomato-Roasted Red Pepper Soup like that and it will knock your socks off.
Also if you are looking to cut down on red meat again at Walmart they carry a Dr. Praeger's Veggie Burgers. I bake one in the over for me it only take 17 minutes and they are excellent. Substituting this once in a while can't kill you.
A great snake at night is a Dill pickle wrapped in a slice of Deli Roasted Turkey Breast ( not the honey variety) very tasty and it will make you sleep.

Great job. Post a photo when you get a new pair of skinny jeans. Be careful. I bought a pair of Skinny Blue jeans last year and I felt like Kramer. I finally cut them for shorts. I can at least walk,
