I am supposed to walk for 10 minutes 3 or 4 times a day and increase it as time goes by. Today it is about 62 degrees, blue skies and sunshine so I hooked the leash on the dog and walked about 1/4 mile up the road and back. After supper I have to make my periodic, much dreaded trek to Walmart for my coffee. It is the only place I have found a box of 60 Folger's Classic Roast Kcups for $26. While I am there I am sure that I will get all the walking I will need for today's exercise.
Two weeks from the date of the procedure I can start cardiac rehab. 45 minutes of exercise and 45 minutes of class time with a nutritionist as well as the physical therapist 4 days a week. I will be much more comfortable pushing a little harder when I have a heart monitor on and someone to tell me if I begin to over do it. I got a bit winded walking the 1/2 mile today but I just slowed the pace a bit and stopped to catch my breath.
I will be glad when I am able to get back to physical activity without worrying every time I get my heart rate up. This incident scared the crap out of me. The way I have always eaten I should not have been the least bit surprised though. I hope to be much thinner and more active by summer so that I can plant my garden and enjoy doing the yard work.

Good luck with the excersise and nutritionist who will change all your eating habits and they types of foods you eat. No red meat is important or at least cut down to once a week then once a monty. Gradually increasing walk time is best. I started by going 10 minutes at a time and then stopping. The continued on for another 10 minutes. I am much more better at it now and can even do sprints where I can make it downtown in about 6 to 8 minutes with a very fast passed walk. I cannot run or jog I just do not like it but read some stuff on Under amour website I think it is a great site for all types of ideas check it out: www.myfitnesspal.com/?_branch_match_id=759945268671175492&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=General%20Email&utm_medium=downloadSign up for the emails they are a great help.

Sunny and 36 degrees this morning. I am going to go do my walking inside at Bass Pro. Probably will be the last good day for a few days. Rain is supposed to move in later today or tonight and stick around for a day or two.
It looks like your NY weather will be quite comparable to ours. Enjoy your day.

Very nice today. Snow later in the week. I think we will keep any walking indoors for a bit. I developed a routine when I was in surgery recovery road. One lap around the ground floor and start the teapot. One lap around the ground floor and to the stairway. Up the stairs, to the end of the hall and back, down the stairs. One lap around the ground floor and down the stairs to the basement. Repeat until tea kettle boils. Start herbal tea brewing. Repeat lap and stair routine until heart and breathing rates are up. Drink tea.
While I was showering this morning, Barb decided to clean up the kitchen. I must have worn her out since she was willing to let me take over.
Your cardiac rehab sounds like a good plan.

Is she able to use both arms or is she confined to the sling? I can't imagine cleaning the kitchen with one hand. Our little house is all on one floor and not enough room to walk far. I may invest in a stationary bike or treadmill if I can find one used for a good price. They seem to be for sale pretty often on the garage sale sites or craig's list. My other option is to use the exercise room at the senior center.

Her right arm is in a sling. She can use the hand but her arm is anchored. She had it about 1/2 done when I got downstairs.
A lot of people buy exercise equipment and then don't use it. We keep a membership at Planet Fitness because it is reimbursed about 90% by our health insurance. When Barb feels up to it we will probably go back there for the treadmills. I don't think we can use any of the other equipment right now.

It only costs $10 a year to use the fitness room at the senior center, but it is across town.

NOT a beautiful day for a walk today. Mid 40's and drizzling rain. Spent the better part of the morning laying my recliner watching tv, then finally got up the energy to take a hot shower and shave. I have been doing my walking here in the house today. Only 1400 steps so far. I reset the device when I am doing my exercise walk so there are some extra incidental steps are not continuous during normal activity around the house that are not counted. Supposed to, and hope to get at least 2000 steps today. I never thought I would be walking around with a fitbit to count how many steps I take, haha.
I wonder if I should be more energetic and not so damned weak 5 days out from the procedure. I don't seem to be getting my strength back as quickly as I thought I would, but I did lay in the hospital, restricted to bed until the angioplasty on Wednesday, and have been fairly restricted in movement since then other than walking for exercise. It is too cold and damp to work in the woodshop, even on projects that wouldn't require lifting. I hate being down and not able to be active. I can't bowl tomorrow night, but I am hoping to be released to bowl on our Thursday night league.

I am up to ( let me check my fitbit) 6000 steps right now and will be out later for another longer walk. I like to be in the 10,000 to 12,000 steps each day or at least 5 days a week. But I can get to 18,000 per day.
A 2011 study found that healthy adults can take anywhere between approximately 4,000 and 18,000 steps/day, and that 10,000 steps/day is a reasonable target for healthy adults

That's good PB. You are very active. I envy your stamina for walking. I am hoping to step it up a bit each day. I got thinking after I made the last post. I had TWO heart caths in TWO days. Four loads of the dyphenhydromine and heavy dose hydrocodone to counteract my allergy to the iodine contrast dye. One the night before and another the morning of on both days. The drugs knocked the crap out of me. I was wore out after the first one, and then had to repeat the process the next day for the specialist to do his thing and put the stent in. I guess I should not be worried.
I cant wait until I can go to rehab and to an exercise program until I have regained all of my strength and stamina. I hate wandering around the house feeling like I do now. I can't imagine feeling like this come summer.

"Four loads of the dyphenhydromine and heavy dose hydrocodone to counteract my allergy to the iodine contrast dye."
So they used the dye afertall. I was wondering what they would do to reduce the histamine level cause by the allergy to the dye. Reminds me when my Mom had to have a stress test before surgery she was having. We went to Slocum Dixon Coronary Department. They started the stress test but her blood pressure and pulse rate were low and would not increase with the increased exercise they were putting her through. i was in the room. The Doctor there kept telling them to increase more of this med they were giving her so as to increase her blood pressure and pulse rate. After about four injections of that stuff I said to the Doctor hey buddy did you read her medications list. She is on 5 different blood pressure medications. He just looked at me like to say who in the hell are you to question me. Believe me I would have told him. Anyway he leaves the room and comes back several minutes and says to the technician to clear the line ( she was on a saline drip and they injected stuff through there) . I chuckled to myself then he said. After thinking about this I want you to go home and stop all Blood Pressure medications for two weeks then come back. So she did.
When she went through the test two weeks later all was perfectly ok and she was cleared for surgery.
My family doesn't like when I speak like that to a Doc but I care less. I did the same thing when she had to have surgery for bladder cancer. It was not successful but when the Doctor came to talk with us after surgery and giving the bad news he said something that just about threw me into a raging bull ready to attack. He said to us I saw a lot of scaring in the pelvic floor did she have radiation. I blew up and said ya didn't even read her chart did ya. She had colon cancer surgery then chemo and radiation for several weeks of course there would be scaring of the pelvic floor. !!!! A gasp could be heard round the world.....................LOL So much for St Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.
I said to the Doctor boy your lucky.! He said nothing. Bastard he was. I reported it to administration. That Doctor left Slocum.

I bought one off Amazon last year for about 100.00. I set it up in my bbasement. I just started using it again & I'm up to about a couple miles a day. I think I could do more but it is a bit boring as I don't have a tv down there. I'm going to have to figure out something to ease the boredom while I'm pedaling away. Best of luck with your rehab, it'll take time but I'm sure you'll get there.

On rainy days you could walk the length and width of your driveway. Also walk in place is fun. I read about that on Fitness Pal.
