Utica and Rome losing populationWell, it's official, I've been banned from commenting. I can sign in, but my comments are immediately deleted. Guess I pissed off EDGE and the disgrace once and for all, eh? :-)

Wow, Swimmy, I saw TONS of posts from you on that story . . .and one was repeated many times. There must have been a glitch of some sort while you were posting that you did not see them. (Good posts by the way).

LOL! Join the new and exclusive club of those of us that are TOO HONEST and outspoken with the truth, to be included among the deluded, hahaha! It is called "censorship" and it is a misplaced power given to people that use it to stifle and smother informed debate, critical opinion, and anything that doesn't fit into the general scheme of biased and narrow minded, self serving propaganda.
Napoleon met his "Waterloo", and we met our "Onwalu", hahaha! If I have to gain any fame at the OD, it would be to have died, opposing biased reporting. I still have friends there, and they are smart enough to play the game in the interest of retaining a position and job. I could not put up with the "cheap" disregard for others, in hiring and retaining good help. My personal pride, and lack of "need" to sell my integrity, to gain the favor of a boss was my salvation, in allowing me to move on from that place.

Sorry I've been MIA lately but I wanted to make a comment on this story. It is funny that we are still losing population yet only two legislators (Myself and Rick Flisnik, R-Marcy) out of 29 want to reduce the size of the legislature. The Charter Revision Commission, of which I'm a member, continues to put off the decision to recommend the reduction. This so-called "reform" commission is a joke. It's akin to a star chamber. Maybe it's time I just propose the legislation to reduce the size of the board instead of waiting for the commission. What do you all think?

Here's a few more suggestions...Get rid of the bed tax, which only goes to support the Tourism Board that gives it to their firends and family. Then get rid of EDGE, which hasn't accomplished a single thing other than laundering money for the same "friends and family."
Time to start cutting non-essential agencies and services, getting back to the basics and consolidating. Cut the political jobs and end the 211 waivers for political appointments.
Jeez, I guess I am a troublemaker.

Hehehehe.....you're on the right track Larry. I talked with a good friend of mine the other day that stopped in the store ( un-like some friends I have invited......cough cough)and while a lot of people have you pegged for a troublemaker, he said you were dead on track. If you were older you would be taken seriously...........but since you are not, nor are you "bought & paid for", most are trying to ignore you and hope you go away. Keep pushing my friend........sooner or later they will be unable to hold the door shut any longer.

Is this the joke commission you speak of? In any case, I wish there were more legislators like you or candidates who could run for my district. Keep up the great work!

"Troublemaker?" Maverick maybe! LOL. I love it! You are shaking some trees that have needed shaking for years. The Oneida County Board of Legislators is an entity that has been overloaded with office holders, and under achieving for years. I bet if you took a poll, a lot of the citizens of the county don't even know what district they live in, or who their representative on the board is.
You are doing an excellent job Larry. It is about time for someone like you to come along and question the motives and usefulness of some of those on the board that accomplish nothing more than to consume oxygen and expel hot air.
Entities such as EDGE have a useful purpose when operated with the correct motive, and a sense of responsibility. EDGE was a good thing at it's inception, but it has gone steadily downhill ever since. It has lost sight of it's mission, and become a self serving bunch of people like Demeo(sp) that do nothing but make noise and feather their nests.
Too much of the usual cronyism has occurred within EDGE and the citizens unwittingly pay to continue the foolishness. Here in Bristol, we have committees that essentially do the same thing. They have marketed our area quite successfully. They have tailored their search for industry to industries that are viable in todays manufacturing picture. Industry that is not going to pack up an move offshore. We have a formerly locally owned snack food company that used to make a local brand of potato chips. It is now owned and operated by a company called Allied Snack Foods. They now make snacks for Walmart, most of the major grocery chains, and even load containers for overseas shipment. They now employ over 250 people on two shifts We have another company that just took over an empty building in our airport park, that manufactures granola bars and ships them worldwide under many different names. They anticipate hiring up to 200 from the get-go and more later. Home Shopping Network has a main distribution center here. We have a company that rebuilds and refurbishes helicopters, a company that makes fibreglass covers for telephone equipment, and many, many other things going on.
It is done through a small industrial development agency, tightly monitored by our legislative body, and sincerely active in marketing the area and in bringing industry here that succeeds. No financing for friends and families to scam the taxpayers. Our local newspaper recently opened a brand new printing and distribution center in the industrial park, with a brand new high speed German press, and an entirely new concept in printing an distributing the paper. OUR newspaper has a vision for the future. OUR newspaper is not afraid of the impending drop in printed news. They cover themselves by printing weeklies and custom printing for others. I am sure they would not have built the printing facility of the future if they didn't think the paper would survive.
You are on the right track Larry. Keep it up, and when you continue to show the citizens that your goals are very real, and make good sense, support will slowly grow for your agenda. You will eventually succeed in making SOME great changes, but one man cannot a legislature make.
If you are successful in making inroads into the waste and political crap, the next election may bring more new blood to the body, as well as getting rid of some of the dead wood. Reform has to start somewhere, and you are making me proud with your unselfish and brave dedication to the job.
I commend your bravery. You wear the armor of righteousness, and you will prevail, but you will be pelted with spears and arrows by those that will try to slander and belittle you. Hang in there my friend. You are a smart and dedicated servant of your constituents. Bravo!

Yes, Swimmy, that is the joke of a commission that I speak of. It's rather unfortunate because I thought this was an opportunity to reform some of the ways the county does business.
Clipper, thatnks for the encouragement. I know things won't change overnight, but I think there are a couple of us new guys that are opening some eyes and chipping away at the old way of doing things. I also think forums like this are greatly underrated with the old guard. You all provide a great forum for getting issues out there that used to be swept under the rug. I can also tell you that more public officials read these forums than you may think. Keep up the discussion and hopefully we will start seeing some changes.
Clipper, I am getting arrows and spears thrown from every direction. But I didn't get elected to worry about "re-election" I got in to do the job, and if I do it right, I can only hope that the people will send me back. If not, I will be happy with knowing that I did the best I could.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, and for the locals, I hope everyone gets out and supports the Boilermaker this weekend.

Ralph, thanks. I never know which one you are at. I usually go to North Genny or River Rd.
They can ignore me all they want. In the end, it's not me they are ignoring...it's the people of Oneida County (you) that they are ignoring. And sooner or later they will have to answer to the people as to why they do what they do. At least I know that I am doing everything I can to make sure you have representation up there. Now, if we could only get you to get in on the city level...I can keep wishing, can't I?

If I was in your district, I'd be busting my butt to see that your re-election was a cake walk! I wish my county legislator was 1/1000 the man you are.
