I don't understand why Sauquoit schools schools are opening with a 2 hour delay. The last I saw Elm Street is still closed. My grand kids spent the night here last night. I could probably get them to school by using the arterial but I don't think I could get them to the bus stop or how the buses could get through.

I was just reading the list of closed roads all over the CNY area. Unbelievable. I bet that those people in Whitesboro that are always affected by Sauquoit creek flooding are in trouble again. I just can't envision how bad it must be for all those roads to be closed. A FB friend was telling me that there was a mudslide on Rt 28 between Newport and Middleville as well as several flooded areas on Rt 28 between Poland and Herkimer. With the road closures on Rt 5 and 5S it sounds like it would be impossible to get down the valley at all.
Are any of you directly impacted by flooding around your home?

Sauquoit schools now closed.
We have a couple wet spots in the basement. Appears to be through the foundation, not leaks. My son pictures of water in his garage. Two motorcycles there in water up to the lower part of their engines.

My daughter-in-law just posted pictures of water in their basement last night. Looks like clean up will be needed. I hope the furnace is OK.

I hope all works out fairly well for them. I once owned a house in Deerfield with a basement that flooded when it rained hard or in spring when the snow thawed. There were times when the sump pump couldn't keep up. I ended up installing a second pump. Never any mud or anything, but the furnace sat 4 or 5 inches above the floor and we ended up putting the washer and dryer on platforms that I built with marine plywood. Even with no mud or mess, there was still the necessity to sweep some of the water into the sump, and to mop and dry things out so there would no be the musty smell or mold and mildew. The entire time we lived there we had a dehumidifier running in the cellar and had to empty the pan frequently.

We have an eastern white pine on the font side lawn here, probably a 60 -70 ftr. Apparently a huge gust of wind maybe a downdraft slammed probably a 20 ft section from the top of the tree right off the main trunk. Ripped it right off leaving the main trunk half the diameter it was before. Never seen anything like it. The trunk segment & all the branches laid on the ground & the top rested on power lines. I called NG & a contractor came & dropped it on the ground. So, tomorrow I'll be out there with a chainsaw cleaning the mess. Hopefully the city will take it once I section it off. Next week I'll be calling tree removal services for estimates to have the rest of it taken down. It's a damn shame, it's a beautiful tree, provides us privacy & is a sound barrier from street traffic. But i think it has to go.

Wow wind did that much damage to the tree! I thought some of those gusts were really strong cause one of them shoved me forward faster than I wanted to go.

That is so sad died in the course of fulfilling his duties. May he rest in peace. I was shocked at so much damage that this storm produced in the area. Flooding everywhere even an entire camp being dislodged and floating down a river than was swollen with water. The City streets in Utica were severely impacted with this storm so what are the water runoff sewers actually doing. Problem in the same story that the Mohawk River get to high thus impacting the amount of water that can empty into it and cause backup in the system thus causing so much flooding. Something has to be done about that because when the Chip plant in March opens and starts to dump millions of gallons of water into the Mohawk Rive on a daily basis big problems will result.
One good thing the bench area;s of the Sauquoite Creek help up they are new as a result of planning by the new supervisor the that place.
