Clipper I just noticed that you guys are somewhat civil and perhaps I would be upsetting some Arcuri voters or something. I see Donna gets rake good though! She deserves it.
Hey what happened to Thelma? I used to like her at the OD forums.

Hey guys I reread what I wrote before and hope it didn't drag anyone down. Feel free to erase that if you want I didn't realize what a downer that could be for just someone reading the forum here for a smile or something. Can you tell I am still a tad angry over it for the last twenty years? Boomer, not that it is going to make you feel better; Carrying around 20 years of anger is both a motivating and consuming motivator. Even after this length of time, I'm sitting here feeling sorry for your loss. I believe everything you said. I think your theory is sound and sadly, it means that justice isn't only blind in this case she's unfair. Not that I'm saying the lad should get tossed away in a dark, dank cell... I'm not. But God help that boy if he should get his 'pass' and then do anything as ... or more heinous ever again. I was telling Frankcor how I had a great Uncle out his way that had a drinking problem much of his life. The guy was a hard worker, good husband, and loved to fish with his wife their entire life together ... but ... he got a drinking habit from his father that he could never escape. He had an accident or two, got more than his share of DWI's and DUI's ... and lost his driver's license. It really is a responsible privilege to drive in New York State. He never killed anyone, but that side of his personality, and he holds the Olney male longevity record at 86 years of life on this side of the veil. Guess if a person could figure out how to package 'smarts' and immortality, we'd all have nothing to talk about here. Well, except how much of a 'hot' topic maker Stoney is. Boomer, you should write a book about what you detailed here. It isn't difficult and using the event and changing names and actual locations might help you to release some of that anger. Just a suggestion. I talk too much.

Boomer, I don't know where you got the impression that we would delete you or that Arcuri was a subject that can't be discussed on here. I for one, am not an Arcuri fan. You can tear him a new asshole, with no interference from me, LOL. Personally, I always thought that Arcuri was a cocky, arrogant, little shit. Albeit a popular one too, Clip. Thought I'd throw that in there. Doesn't make him anymore if he doesn't get MORE JOBS pumped into this part of the Mohawk Valley!! He's human. He has faults. He's a political leader that needs to work his 'junior' abilities to the extreme.

Boomer. Thelma and I had a parting of the ways, and a pissing contest. I was equally at fault, but it snowballed until she deleted her account. I will say no more.
I will say that our rules don't allow for personal attacks. We have our disagreements, and people have angry discussions on occasion. We simply try to keep it fairly civil, and not libelous or slanderous. Blatant and ignorant racist comments are not tolerated by me personally. That just happens to be a subject that I don't see any productive purpose to be served by allowing it on the site.
It is my personal opinion, that if you are in politics, or in a position like Donna's, you are fair game if you are involved in controversial issues. Another thing I use myself, as a guideline, is that if it is publicly printed or broadcast in the mainstream media, it is open to opinion on this site.
It is hard to put a finger on, but we simply try to keep it civil among our members, and not let things get to the point that the situation did between myself and Thelma.
One of our rules forbids discussing the specifics of a situation like that, so I will not get into it, but I will say that the forum was fairly young at that time, and I have learned more tolerance for personality differences, and the whole forum has more or less moderated itself. The parameters of courtesy and good taste seem to have set their own bounds.
As far as Arcuri goes, you are welcome to discuss at will, but simply stay within reason in your comments. What you have seen about Donna Donovan, and what you saw during the elections, is fine. That should tell you that the forum isn't real restrictive in itself.

Clipper its an explosive topic with a lot of people and yes I forgot you guys never let it get so crazy so why not?
As for Thelma thats just too bad. When I first started reading her notes at the OD I remember thinking she seemed to be from a better time where things like the social problems aroun ths country weren't really "here". I mean when I first read her stuff I was like OMG this lady has it all figured out. Over time though, I kept reading and little by little I sort of understood where her set ways and stuff were only because she never HAD to figure out how to raise a bunch of rugrats in uticas worst part of town, or never had a boyfriend that made a disaster of his life and maybe robbed a liquor store or something. In a way, I came to envy her way of disposing of things that bugged her "Enough said!" drives me nuts LOL! Swear to God I came to really like her somehow and even spoke to her at the OD forums once or twice. I remember her tales of her "GD" etc. and all the "cute" things she did like a grandma, a cratchety one maybe but just as likeable in some way! As ornery or as set in her way how can you debate a lady like that unless she asks for it! Hehe! I mean i KNOW it makes no sense but it wasjust a case of respect your elders! So I grew to accept it and I actually got a kick out of her, and talking to her. Sorry to hear you guys didn't hit it off but yes she's wise and of years so she's going to say what she says and we don't HAVE to like it I guess, and she'd probably tell us so too!

Like I said Boomer, our terms of service, or rules, forbid my discussing the issue. She elected to delete her account, not me. That is all I will say on the subject.
However explosive, it is in the past and should be left in the past. I am not happy or proud of the way it went down either. End of discussion.
When does the Arcuri thread start? I think it will be a contentious issue for discussion. I have noticed an anti-Arcuri undercurrent on MOST of the forums, as well as on this one. I think personally that he is a little man with a big ego. I am of the opinion that he thinks he is important, but he is just a pawn for a "bigger machine."
I can't wait to hear what everyone else thinks about the guy. I guess I just wasn't impressed with him even during the campaign process.

Just an observation about our seeming ability to keep things (usually) from getting out of hand on Clipper's Busy Corner. Most of us try to be factual, cite references, if possible and not personally attack each other (ad hominems.) I'm no saint, but I've always tried to imagine I'm in your living room when I address you on the forum.
OK, I'll take my feet off the coffee table.

I have to say that it was Dave, Frankcor, and Ralph, with their on-line experience that taught me a lot about on line etiquette, and I try my damnedest to walk in the footsteps of those teachers.
Anyone needing to know what makes Clipper's Corner so civil, just read back and check out the way hot button issues are handled by these experienced communicators.
I really don't believe in hiding behind the keyboard and blasting anyone. I DO have a miserable french canadian temper when I am provoked, but unfortunately, as Dave said, I would tell a person the same damned thing if I WAS in their living room. I use my picture for an avatar, and most know my identity. I don't put my personal info on the web, but as I said, many of the members know me by name, and know of me through mutual acquaintances.
Moderating this forum, has been an enlightening experience for me. I have learned a lot about tolerating the opinions of others, and about self control. I have only been on line for a little over a year and a half, and anyone that remembers my first experiences in posting, will remember that my temper and opinions put me on the firing line daily, in the old OD forums.
We all have quirks and things that piss us off. I am really angered by generalizations of race and racial prejudice. I guess I am a benevolent person, and don't believe in demeaning or beleaguering whole demographics, for the offenses of a few. Remarks about black dope dealers, and black thugs, when justified are fine. But to generalize, and lump all people of color into a perceived class with those dealers and gansters is ridiculous and ignorant.
I would point to Corner's post. Try to remember that "it is only 3% of 26% of the population" that is committing 90 something percent of the crime. That means that there is 97 percent of the that same 26%, that are law abiding citizens.
You will also see that in many cases, I defer moderation on some issues to the other two moderators and administrators, if I find that I would not be able to moderate fairly, or am not clear as to whether the issue is in violation of the rules.
Fortunately, we have not had many incidents needing any serious moderation, and some arguments have been defused by simply sending a PM to both parties involved, and they managed to settle differences and agree to disagree, by PM.
I would encourage anyone that has a serious problem or disagreement with someone on the forum, to go to the members profile and send them a PM, and try to resolve their differences. Sometimes it is simply necessary to agree to disagree. Not every difference of opinion can be resolved by changing the mind of one of the parties.

Mr. Arcuri is discussed, Let's just say yeah, I think a whole bunch would like to express their love for Mr. Arcuri. Probably don't know me too well but I think the others know I when I'm serious about something and when I'm being sarcastic. The broad band thing was meant to be sarcasm and that's all. Wilum

I don't know, Clipper. There is a topic on the General board that looks pretty damned racist to me. But you're the boss..
