Bank of Utica had a total make over a few years ago. The front is all glass and there is a tall metal and glass spire with a clock on it that turns colors. Some metal apparently fell off the spire or was dangling off the spire.

I found a photo Looks nice but I don't think it fits in with the architecture of downtown.

I don't remember when they built their tower but it is attractively lit at night. I haven't been there in years but I once had business accounts with them. They took me to lunch once a year as a thank you for doing business locally.

That is a very eye catching spire and clock and a very nice addition to the city skyline at night. I also used to have a checking account there CB, and as a result, I dated one of the drive-thru tellers for a period of time in the 70's.
It set me to thinking about downtown. Bank of Utica is about the sole surviving bank still under the same name as in the 50's and 60's. Oneida National, Marine Midland, and Homestead Savings and Loan and others are all gone, swallowed up in mergers and reorganizations or simply closing the doors over the years.

We have been trying to declutter our house a bit. One of the things we found was a 3 ring binder in which we carefully filed the checking account statements each month. Not only did we no longer have the account but the bank no longer existed.
We don't write many checks anymore. Barb pays most bills online. Groceries are mostly purchased with a debit card since I don't carry much cash.
