UTICA, N.Y. -- Spend $20, win up to $5 million? Well, a Utica man did just that! Michael Shepard bought a "100 Times the Cash" scratch-off lottery ticket at the Price Chopper on Genesee Street in Utica, and that's where he cashed in on his winnings. After taxes, Yolanda Vega presented him a check for $3,359,000. The 49-year-old bought the ticket a few weeks ago when he was cashing his paycheck. He was quick to scratch the ticket, but took his time before telling anyone. “I put it in a safe at my friend's house, and then I waited because I wanted to get some advice first and stuff,” said Michael Shepard, the winner. Shepard is the 20th New Yorker this year to claim a prize totaling more than $1 million. WKTV looked up the odds of winning on this particular scratch off – and your chances of winning $5 million are 1 in 4,152,960. Your odds of winning $20, the cost of the ticket are 1 in 10. More information on what the chances are of winning other prize amounts can be found on their website. By the way, a quick Google search says the odds of being attacked by a shark are better than winning five million dollars on this game. www.wktv.com/content/news/Utica-man-wins-5M-on-20-scratch-off-lottery-ticket-508386331.html

Now anyone know if he has to pay any additional taxes on what was left after the first taxation: $3,359,000. Maybe he can live off the interest.

He'll regret going public. They'll all come out of the woodwork. You can say that again. I once read a story about a guy who won big like that and just about ever person on the block he lived on was knocking on his door asking for money. One person said to him that it isn't your money you won it so come on give some away.
