I just read the story on the OD homepage about the Hamlin boy from New Hartford. I was a wonderful tribute to his efforts and dedication to his sport. I would not take away from his personal glory in any manner.
My only question is why does no kid from Utica or other surrounding town, get such a long and insightful write up when their athletic accomplishments are reported??
It won't be long, and they will probably change the name of the newpaper to "Donovan's Daily New Hartford Dispatch" with offices in Utica NY.
I was reading in a syndicated column from the "infamous" Leonard Pitts this morning, where it is not too far in the future, when newpaper outlets will start charging a subscription fee to read their news on line. The Observer Disgrace will starve to death!! Without the printed advertising, I can't imagine trying to read the news with all the spammy popups and ads on the online page. I personally don't see the OD being a viable news outlet for long in that form.
I sure as hell will quit reading their sorry assed attempt at a webpage. Hell, on weekends, they don't even publish the obits on the website half the time.
All I can say, is I hope I am able to get someone from our own membership to publish the obits and deaths on Clipper's Busy Corner. I get most of my RELIABLE news here nowadays anyhow. Why not the obits too?
Strikeslip, and Gear are very informative in their opinions and ACCURATE reporting. ACCURATE being the key word. If I were inclined to pay for hometown news, I would much rather pay to subscribe to their blogs, than the OD homepage, LOL.
Some people find Gear's lack of comment capability to be frustrating. I find it invigorating. Nothing like reading an impassioned opinion post, and not being able to comment. It really gets your blood pumping, hahahaha!
