Mezzetta Delicate Marinara Pasta Sauce, Italian Plum tomato, 16.25 Oz




If you come across this little gem in the grocery store then buy it. I saw it in Walmart the other day( they are getting in more top quality foods). Very low in sugar and no added sugar so it must be just from the tomato. It is close to my sauce. The only thing I did was cook a pound of Italian sausage in it but I did try it plain with some bread before I added the sausage. Excellent.

We will have to look for it in other stores. We normally use Prego when she makes anything other than pasta, such as chili, or macaroni goulash. When she makes spaghetti or lasagna she ALWAYS makes her sauce from scratch and cooks it for hours. Sometimes she makes a large batch and freezes some in quart containers. We use that for chicken or veal parm, sausage and pepper sandwiches, or for meatballs when she occasionally makes a large batch of meatballs to be served with sauce as our entree', without any pasta.

We always use jarred sauce for chili. It is simply easier than cooking it from scratch with tomatoes and having to add all the spices that are already in a jarred sauce. Normally we cheat on chili and use a McCormick's chili seasoning in a package and spike it up a bit with a little more heat from hot peppers or hot sauce. Kathy kids me about liking everything hot. I often add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes on top of a plate of spaghetti.

I'll have to check my Walmarts stores here. If they don't have it I'm guessing they carry it for all the Italian shoppers in Utica area. Wegmans here caters to the local crouds ie: now in Buffalo due to large Polish population there and coming of Dyngus Day April 1st the Cheektowaga stores are carrying Tee-shirts, Polish Tyskie beer and things for the holiday.
