Does anyone have Free Virus Protector. When I was running WinXP I was using AVG till I wasn't able to and switched to AVAST. With my new computer running Win10 it came with trial version of McAfee so I decided to take the 3 free months and then switch but I must have decided to take their renewal offer. Today I got an email with an auto renewal for 107.99. I never authorized auto renewal and usually do not auto renew with anyone for any service. I stopped my auto renew and canceled the charge that they slapped on Paypal. My supscription ends end of November that I did purchase last year so now looking for possible change back to Free.
I Googled Free antivirus and PC magazine listed AVAST as free and #1 so far. Any comments welcome.
BTW McAfee when they update and send me alerts just recently offered a renewal for 69.00 yet auto renewed it for 107.99

I get pop ups that tell me that my McAfee has expired. I didn't subscribe. It was the free trial period when I updated to Win 10. I have Norton and have never paid much attention to the McAfee or ran their scans etc. They haven't tried to charge me for anything. I ran with AVG and AVAST free programs for a few years and still have AVAST on my laptop but have had good luck with Norton and have never had an issue that wasn't automatically resolved by the Norton program.
Were you always satisfied with the security of Avast and AVG? I had a couple of issues with things that got around the Avast program and infected my PC so that I had to take it in and have it removed by my local computer repair people.

Someone posted something awhile back about how to remove McAffe completely. It tends to leave bits and pieces even after you uninstall it completely. I will look for it but no time today.

Chris yes get the free AVAST. I have used it for many years now I think 10 or more and never have a problem with it. I have also never had a virus or anything like that. I also have Windows 10 and use both Chrome and Edge and like I said never had a problem. They do send little notifications about extras you can buy if you want them but I never bother with them. They just had a recent upgrade and added more features. I do like that when any program you have that needs to be upgraded AVAST will let you know so you can do it.
So go ahead it is an excellent free virus program.

This will give you a preview and link to the looong URL of the "How to remove McAfee products from a PC running Windows" page. preview.tinyurl.com/ydeofg8yOr if you don't trust TinyURL search for : How to remove McAfee products from a PC running Windows which should get you to the same place. This will say to uninstall in the normal manner, and if that doesn't work, a link to McAfee's own uninstall tool. Once uninstalled you will find Windows 10 has a it's own antivirus/ currently called Windows Defender. which works fine. You may have to turn it on. www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5918-turn-off-windows-defender-windows-10-a.html

I tell you that you will love AVAST. It doesn't slow down your PC and have the time I forget it is there. It WILL notify you if something tries to get through them: BAM!

chris you will get notices from time to time with new services. I ignore them because I found out they also charge for additional services which are not really needed. Updates are automatic unless they notify you
