I lived in North Utica. Someone dumped red paint all over my yellow car once. Of course that was 11 years ago. How's that for high crime? I actually made a police report about that and a police officer came out and looked at everything. It even made the paper that week in the police blotter. No names or anything, it just said that a North Utica woman complained that someone threw paint on her car.

SSShhhh! Don't talk about stuff like that! You will blow the image portrayed by a few individuals that people of color, poor folks, and criminals are not allowed north of the baggs square bridge!
Hmmm. Sound like anything that ever was argued over and over and over on this forum? ( Sorry, couldn't resist it)

I've thought about this for a long time. My advice to anyone still living within the confines of any upstate city is this: Run. Government and police can't fix it, even with extra dollars. We have a growing population of people ... and they're not the same color and soon even more colors will be added ... who couldn't give a flying flick about safe neighborhoods or a so-called normal lifestyle. The current batch of young males doesn't even remember such a state. Drugs, guns, money and violence will prevail in the long run ... all while liberal politicians remove legitimate guns from the people. Get out now.

Well try harder! lol
The government of the various municipalities, towns, villages, and county could easily solve the problems if either weren't full of cronyism, political favoritism, etc. who rubber stamp everything that increases taxes and puts money into their friends pockets.

I'll argue with you, Swimmy. Yes, the cronyism, etc. exisits, but removing it won't solve the problem and make Cornhill a great place to live again. I can't think of anything constitutionally acceptable that would do that.
I speak occasionally to a guy who lives in a neighborhood in Brooklyn that is mixed Hassidic and minorities. Hasidim is a very orthodox form of the Jewish faith. The police have virtually pulled out and "the beards" ... young religious toughs with ear ringlets, long beards and black suits, if you can believe it ... have taken over. They do not countenance any behavior that is not strictly law-abiding. You can pretty much do what you want in your own domicile (for now), but any thievery, assault, on-street drug use or dealing is met with outright violence. They simply pick you up, break your legs and, like Good Samaritans, drop you off at the Emergency Room. My acquaintance tells me the neighborhood of roughly 25,000 people is quickly becoming crime free and he expects that soon he'll be able to even walk in the parks at night. As far as I know, the Hasidim accept no federal grants.

Well, yeah, the neighborhood will be safe. Unless you're breaking the Sabbath.

That's right, their agenda will reign, not ours. What we need is someone whose agenda agrees with ours. Someone whose violence is acceptable to us. Someone who will make the trains run on time. Does that sound familiar?

As long as it's not one of "those people."
