2 reportedly shot in Utica By Observer-Dispatch Posted Jun. 7, 2015 at 12:18 AM UTICA Two people were reportedly shot in Utica early this morning. City police responded to the corner of Leah and Miller streets in Cornhill at 12:10 a.m., where first-arriving units reported one victim was inside a house of where a large party was taking place. The other victim was found outside. Police requested assistance from any available patrols from the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and state police to help with crowd control and to secure the area around the scene. The area was taped off by police, and area hospitals were being alerted that there may be groups of people who know the victims headed to their facilities www.uticaod.com/article/20150607/NEWS/150609459Just keep adding on in good old Shootica.

With the pot simmering nationwide, no one could pay me enough to be a police officer in the city of Utica, or in ANY area for that matter. Police are under attack and there seems to be a lawless movement that has decided that police officers should be fair game and should be shot and killed when the opportunity arises.
I avoid driving in the inner city for the most part when I visit Utica. I have grown wary of driving in the seedier neighborhoods here also. It seems that NO city is immune to decline when drugs and lack of employment strikes inner city families. Idle hands lead to trouble, no matter the race. Utica seems to point the finger to the black community, but here in our area, crime knows no color barriers. DRUGS is driving the train and shootings and stabbings, robberies and home invasions are constantly in the news. It seems here that the offenders are pretty evenly split between whites, hispanics and blacks. The latest crime of choice seems to be pharmacy burglaries and daylight armed pharmacy robberies. In most cases, drugs is the only reason for the crimes and the only thing taken. The majority of the robberies and burglaries target only the opiates and in most cases there is no cash taken. They want the oxycodone and hydrocodone, period. The street value of the drugs stolen is much higher than what they would most likely net in a robbery of a cashier or store manager, and they acquire a large quantity that allows for profitable sale as well as a supply to feed their own habit.
It seems that most convenience store robberies and other robberies where cash is the driving force, it is Meth addicts in need of money to purchase their meth. Meth heads also seem more inclined to do harm to the victims, and are most likely high and desperate. Meth is a huge problem in this area of NE Tennessee. Our sheriff's department busts meth labs almost daily, and sadly in many cases there are small children present in the home where the meth is being cooked. Your area of upstate NY may quite likely suffer more from heroin addictions than meth. Here it is the meth that is predominant and more readily available. They call it "hillbilly heroin."

Someone of the police facebook page made a comment toward another person stating that the party was to raise money for someone's tombstone and that it got loud because that is how we party and if you don't like it plug your ears. The Party was actually an after the prom house party. They always shoot someone at those kind of parties.

Very true CB!! We knew it was going to go down like this back then as well.
Alan, In the end it makes no difference what the part was for, it was a party and people were shot at there. The noise? Well, there's a noise ordinance in effect 24/7. Whether or not people call to complain is another thing, but obviously some one called as they had already been by there once to ask them to quiet down.

I read in the OD that the area around there with those house parties attract high level street gang members and this makes matters worse. It is a shame that any decent people around there can't take back there streets and neighborhoods.
