Around Christmas of 1952, Hank Williams phoned Don and Jerry from his mothers home in Montgomery, Alabama, to prepare for a concert in Canton, Ohio, on New Years Day. Hank never made it to Canton... he died in route, but back in Montgomery, five days later, Bobby Jett gave birth to a healthy baby girl.... Hank Williams' daughter. Books and movies are underway describing the bizarre series of events and circumstances which made this little girl the biggest secret in country music for nearly 30 years. After overcoming considerable resistance to her efforts, Jett Williams, was declared, by court order dated October 26, 1987, to be the biological daughter of Hank Williams. From childhood, Jett demonstrated an unusual and natural talent for music, singing, and her guitar, and since her true identity was proven, she had been featured on the Today Show (NBC). Country Notes (Nashville Network). Current Affair (Fox Network). Entertainment Tonight (CBS). Inside Edition, and a host of regional radio and television programs.

On June 4, 1989, Jett Williams made her professional singing debut to a standing ovation at the annual memorial celebration honoring her father in Evergreen, Alabama. Adding to her memories of this unforgettable day, she met for the first time Jerry Rivers and Don Helma, the fiddle and steel guitar players she had heard on her father's records for so many years. Moreover, they were Hank's friends who had shared in both his trials and tribulations.... the only still active members of the Drifting Cowboys Band. This meeting was to figure heavily in Jett Williams' career direction. There is magic when Jett Williams blends her unique and inherited singing style with the songs and musical sounds of her father. The conductor of the New Orleans Pops Symphony Orchestra dubbed Hank Williams a "genius of simplicity." Following the premier performance of Jett and the Cowboys at the Greater Gulf State Fair in Mobile, a reviewer described Jett as a "clean, strong, pure sound, like no other female country singer, and that alone is a blessing. Audiences will long remember the day they had a chance to come by after the show and meet old Hank's girl... and a couple of his "boys."
