Hey, Barbara Walters loved our loaf that is being served in NY State Prison's.
The messhall cooks feelings get hurt when their loaf is referenced to cruel and unusual punishment. They take great pride in the preparation. Although the ingredients are blended and baked into a solid loaf form. It is simply the regular prison meal (including drink) blended together and made from a mixture of wheat bread, non-dairy cheese, various vegetables, and mixed with vegetable oil, tomato paste, powdered milk and dehydrated potato flakes.
What is cruel and unusual punishment is that Correctional Officer that received a face full of feces from convict that is now on the so called loaf.

Maybe they do. Since the inmates do the serving one never knows who is p*ssed at who and what they just might throw in the food. ;D

After 17 plus years of service in State Corrections and never eating State food I asked the Messhall Cook to get me the loaf to try. Since they are the ones that prepare this and not the convicts I felt safe about eating it.
As he brought out a slice to me I first notice the appearance. It looked like a slice of homemade bread, with the crust, just like mom made back in the day. The color of the bread was a shade darker than the traditional white bread, crust being the same. The taste incredibly was no difference to me, it would have been better with butter but all the same very good.
I would be willing to bet that if this loaf was sliced up and put out for people to eat they would never know the difference even after they were told.
Bottom line is that anyone that states it is cruel and unusual punishment most likely has never had it and if they have, well welcome to prison where you were indited not invited. ;D

If you guys are hurting on budget cuts, perhaps marketing the Loaf to the public is a good way to recoup some of those losses...

Why would any inmate screwup. They get three meals a day. a nice clean bed. private or semi-private rooms, free sex and TV. And free use of the library. What else do they need!

And that's not even the half of it. If only the tax payer's could really see the daily operations.

Sheriff Bud York and Sheriff Arpaio have the right ideas about discouraging return, we need to institute them nation wide! Our Service Members have less rights and get fed and boarded in worse conditions than the Cons!
Legalize Pot and Prostitution, throw all the low risk population out of jail and make the get a legal job. With the two new taxable trades in effect, there should be no problems getting them working! We will make money, save money and Empty out half of the Jail Cells in the Country!
No really, Im not kidding, think of the financial and social implications of finally getting these activities above the table, regulated and taxed. We could single handedly wipe out unemployment and state overspending while bringing Billions of dollars and millions of people out of the back alleys and slums.
We cant expect different outcomes if we continue doing the same ineffective and costly things. The war on above age of consent drug use and sex for sale has failed, give it up and lets put the Untaxed Pot Growers, Dealers, Pimps Underage and Disease Ridden Despots out of business overnight!

I think it is Norway that has very leberal drug laws. People relax in the large park system's enjoying there choice and everything is fine. The also only work 35 hour weeks and everyone gets six weeks off a year for vacation.

Alan, its about time we gave up on prohibition like bans and Rockefeller laws, they don't work, they never have and just create more unwanted, untaxed, unregulated criminal commerce. Hell, My Grandmother got caught running booze across the Canadian boarder during Prohibition and she was The biggest Prude I have ever known hands down!
Texting, Lipstick application, Talking and reading while driving and Walking causes 1000 times more deaths than Pot and Prostitution combined. The oldest Profession would be much safer for everyone if the purveyors were inspected by the Board of Health and USDA like any other Product.

Boy is that ever the truth Todd. When I lived in Duluth Mn there was a federal prison located on what was once an Air Force Base. The housing units were the dormitory type living quarters. There were white collar criminals there that lived in apartments that were designed for military families.
Some of those incarcerated there were convicted embezzlers, and each morning, some of those same crooks were taken into downtown Duluth by van or car, to perform work release jobs at accounting firms, insurance companies and banks. It was always rather unnerving to me to think that an embezzler might be accessing my account information, while sponsored by our federal government's penal system. After learning that the "2nd person" in the room, "assisting" the loan officer if and when I applied for a boat loan might be a convicted felon on work release, I moved my accounts to a local credit union, who assured me that they used no work release inmates.
Those kind of "white collar" criminals deserve the most strict and unpleasant of incarceration environments, and never get it. People with minor drug offenses, prostitution arrests etc, should be taken care of by probation and fines that will discourage them by getting into their pocket books. I would think that house arrest would be an excellent and effective punishment. I can't imagine being confined with a bracelet on my ankle to monitor my every activity and to restrict my movement. The costs of increased house arrests would be high, but would have to be more cost effective than incarceration.

Dave, I need to say, Im not Pro Drug, Im anti Prohibition. Even if they legalize Marijuana and its derivatives, processed chemicals are not the same at all. Cocaine, Heroin, Meth and designer drugs are much too dangerous for general distribution. They are all interesting commentary and research. The statistics are very sketchy on both sides of the argument. Just like unemployment, social services and Sex Trafficking; under the table income and total population inclusion is very hard to quantify and qualify. Illegal activities are rarely documented accurately even when privacy are promised. Before Urine tests in the Military, I knew so many respected higher ranking NCO's and Officers that smoked Pot it was ridiculous. I know many that got out because of those little plastic bottles. I can't tell you how embarrassing and denigrating it was for me to have to have to physically watch my soldiers Gland in Hand Piss in a bottle. They were guilty until proven innocent, I lost excellent warriors and they never did anything wrong but piss! I gave those Urine tests to lots of Drunk Service Members who were supposed to be prepared to serve but that wasn't illegal! Lets face it, Law enforcement, Dealers and Growers all have a common thread of support for current systems to remain as they are. Money, billions of dollars, their jobs and livelihoods depend on the status quot. Think about- Farmer who would benefit from new crop potentials, , My Sister-In Law might be able to get relief through her Chemo (Cant eat well, sick to her stomach, depression) My Mom might get some help with her Parkinson's symptoms (her Neurologist said it works much better than the destructive crap she's on now) Producers that can make clothing, construction materials and green NRG products, (Hemp, Fuel, Construction Panels, Oil) Distribution Networks and vendors that could profit from controlled access, (Self explanatory) Police could focus on Dangerous Felons and thugs, (Self explanatory) Treatment Facilities would have a better chance to help those that need it than jails, (no need to hide addiction issues like they do now) Corrections system could be cut significantly, (Self explanatory) Taxes Collected, Americans Employed, Illegal trade eliminated and Government expenditures cut. Nobody would deny, we would all be better off without Alcohol, Drugs, and Prostitution. That said, they have always been significantly statistically popular, they are here to stay. The vision of a perfect Society clouds our reasonable expectations and practical judgment. Bring the Closet Queens and the General Populace out of the Shadows. Time to teach adults to act like adults instead of mandating societal norms then punishing their human failures. They were always lies to begin with, the last three presidents most certainly got Stoned yet still attained the Highest office in the land (oh I forgot, one of them didn't inhale...)!
