www.uticaod.com/news/x254745409I know we've discussed this ad naseum and most of us are in agreement on the wasted resources being poured into a building the appeals mostly to those who live outside the "city" that the stanley is trying to "revive". I just tend to think this is putting the cart before the horse so to speak.

I have to agree with Jduges. We have beaten the topic to death. It is a wonderful old theater, and beautiful inside. We have invested millions to preserve and modernize it at the same time. Sadly it is all for a niche audience and as Jduges states, largely from outside the city itself.
I think the stanley has been a worthwhile project, but is being overdone with our money. To keep it alive is admirable. To turn it into a palace or a shrine is not neccessary. When and if it becomes profitable, it could be furthered in it's improvements.
I find it disgusting that so much money is being spent on a theater when there are so many more pressing issues to be addressed. I mean Gee whiz Mr Spitzer, we have sewage overflowing into a creek and an estimated bill of 60+ million to rectify it. We put off that important project, yet expedite the remodeling of a historic building. Duh! Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that picture???
We have people living under bridges and on the flats in old junk cars, and we selfishly spend on "socialite" programs instead of "social" programs. Taxes go up and up and up. We fund more and more projects like the Stanley, and cut programs that affect human life issues and quality of life in general. Where the hell is our concsience that we can look at kids in rags, living in slums, and spend the money on an electronic sign instead???
I have to think the world would be a better place to live, if we all took in a foster child for a period of time and saw the pain first hand. Saw the pain and felt the rewards!
I fully understand the points made by those who speak out agains welfare abuse and drug addicted parents sucking on the system. I simply don't have the answer to that, but cannot turn my back on the vision of the kids innocently made victims of their parents mistakes.
Look at the scenario of yourself sitting in the 30 0r 40 dollar seat at a concert at the stanley, warm and toasty with a glass of wine at intermission. Now envision the child laying on a bare mattress on a dirty floor, wrapped in a threadbare blanket while you are at the stanley. They have had nothing to eat all day, but a bowl of cereal. Are ya still worry free and contented sitting at the stanley, with that vision in your head???
Yep, I am still the same old Liberal clipper, haha. I can't help but sympathize with the underprivaleged. It is my nature. I apologize to those that I offend, but will continue to campaign for the kids and the elderly or disabled poor.

I think I commented briefly on this on the disgrace forums, but I would have rather seen this money put towards the "study" to clean up the raw sewage swimming in the mohawk river.
