Playing "hunt & peck" in there is like playing Russian roulette with an automatic........you're almost sure to do some damage. I think I'll put the remaining drivers on my "new" XP system and see how long it rides. It sure is faster than my old XP.

I don't use Norton and never have. I have only had McAffee and my present program called "System Suite Professional" from Walmart. I also have Spydoctor and Stopzilla loaded, but the trial for stopzilla has expired. Who knows how much more crap I have hiding in the background. I am seriously thinking of going back to paying for McAffee again in February when my program expires and requires renewal. I never had a problem when I had McAffee and it did all it's scans automatically where this program requires all sorts of individual scans and they have to be scheduled to run at night when you are not online or they will drive you nuts.

clipper, I've used AVG and Avast with no problems, having stopped McAfee a couple of years ago. AVG was working fine, but I think it was here I was convinced (maybe by Ralph, but I don't remember) to move to Avast.

Well when I get all the other crap dumped off of here, maybe I can try it. I just have to learn from Ralph how to keep the thing from bogging down with a bunch of crap and cookies and stuff. I have cookies on here that I don't even know what they are. I know I downloaded them at one time or another, but I can't remember how or why.

Every site give you a cookie, even this one. Maybe I should say especially this one. The only way to avoid cookies is to set "no cookies" or "ask" in your browser. With "no" you won't get on to any site. With 'ask" you'll wear out your keyboard saying OK.

Hmm. I learn something new every day. I knew that cookies were attached to other things that I downloaded and that they made them work, but I didn't know that EVERY site had cookies attached. I guess I don't know the definition or the purpose of a cookie. Thanks. I guess I have some reading to do, lol
Is that what the little block that pops up on my lower right corner that says "allow access once, allow access every time, or don't allow access one time, blah blah blah" is all about?

When you visit a site, the site puts a small amount of code into your PC, if you accept the "cookie." It will keep track of where you go, and report where you've been to other sites when you enter them. E.g., LL Bean might want to know if you were recently at Cabellas. Companies such as "Ad Click" keep track of your browsing, and use analysis tools to look at where you go, if you're a slick young chick who likes skimpy underwear or you're an old pervert. Hahahaha! AdClick compiles information by demographic types and sells it to advertisers. Here's a wiki article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie
