It is going to be 91 here later. The heat lately has been oppressive. Stepping out of an airconditioned building or car is like stepping into a blast furnace. Thank goodness most cars can now be started with the remote and can be cooled down with the AC before you have to get into them.

But the wallet took a hit as we had to go pick out a new mattress. Ouch! Ouch is right. We have been contemplating replacing our mattresses. We looked at a Stearns and Foster king size the other day that was over $4000. We need a king and a queen. Our mattresses are over 15 yrs old. The king is developing a hump in the middle and sagging on the edges. Yup, obviously worn out. I suspect that in order to get a mattress of reasonable quality is going to cost over $2000 at least. What happened to the days when we went ot Sears and bought a Serta Posturepedic for $200 and thought it was outrageous?

Ours was $1500 for a queen. But free delivery is included & they'll take the old one free of charge & probably recycle it which will save me the trouble of dragging the old mattress & the box spring out for the city to haul away for trash pickup. The old one lasted about 6 years, they don't make 'em like they use to. The only drawback is that it won't be deliverd until a week from today.
They have the adjustable models & the cheapest one was about $2500 all the way up to $4k. No thanks. I don't want to live in the damn thing just get 7-8 hrs of sleep in it. Lol

Lol There is a company in Johnson City that recycles mattresses and produces a mattress that is made with used springs with new fabric and padding. They are a cheap and low quality. I wouldn't buy a mattress from anyone unless they take away the old bedding. Kathy and I could never wrestle a king size mattress to the curb. It is one of those really tall mattresses and they don't seem to put handles on them anymore. We have all we can do to rotate it end for end on occasion.

Come to think of it I don't think our has handles on it either. And try to find one that's double sided so you can flip it. Almost impossible.

It's another hot one here again today also. 88 degrees, 53% humidity, and the UV index listed as "very high." I won't be spending much time outside today. I just took the dog out a little while ago and the heat hit me in the face the minute i opened the door. I told Kathy that I was just going to take a lazy day today.

I like the jolt you get when exiting or entering a very nicely air condition Bus. I traveled around a few cities and towns and villages today because of sheer boredom. I really should wash cloths but I hate doing that. I think I will send them out to Poplin laundry services and have them do it. At $1.00/pound with a $20.00 minimum it is worth it. Plus they sent a coupon for $10.00 off.
Thursday the weather will be the same.......

It is 5 degrees hotter in Utica than it is here today. I was outside at 7am and took my time moving two fairly small trailer loads of the wood to the back yard. It was only about 60 degrees. I gave the car a quick wash and came in for breakfast. My buddy called and wanted to go shoot so I met him at the VFW pistol range and we burned a couple boxes of 9mm apiece. The shooting benches are under a pavilion so it was not real hot. With ammo costing $22 for 50 rounds burning up 100 rounds at a time can get expensive. I replaced what I shot but I won't be going to the range again for a while. I usually only take one box of 50 with me. I bought the ammo I fired for $14 for 50 rounds. I didn't realize how much it had gone up. The difference between $28 and $44 is a bit of an expensive price increase for an hour at the range.

We got hammered with a nasty t- storm about an hour ago. Heavy rain, winds, the whole bit & at 6:30 it was dark out. I just happened to be looking out our sliding door when a lightening bolt struck somewhere off to the northwest, no doubt hitting paydirt somewhere in Marcy. I didn't hear any sirens so I guess everything is ok. Things have calmed down with showers & some thunder & lightening but nothing like earlier. Thankfully at least here we didn't lose power.
No evening walk for the puppy tonight!
