It is Super Saturday and all those that have procrastinated and put off their Christmas shopping will be out in full force. It has been chaotic all week in the major shopping areas around here. The huge PInnacle shopping area out next to I-81 has been so packed that they had to implement different traffic flow patterns, red cones, and closed turn lanes.
Kathy had a doctor's appointment yesterday in Abingdon ( 20 miles North on I-81). When we left the doctor's office we thought we might stop for supper at exit 7 where most of the larger chain restaurants are located. It is also where Target, Walmart, and several other major stores are located. The traffic in the area was so heavy that it was backed up the off ramp and out onto the interstate. I was afraid to stop in the exit lane at the top of the ramp, vulnerable to a bad rear end collision by vehicles passing on the main travel lanes. When we got back to the Tennessee side of town, the major restaurants were also packed and the traffic was ridiculous. We ended up skipping any idea of a steak dinner and ended up at a small Mexican restaurant in Blountville, off the beaten path.
Some of the stores are opening early here today. Judging from what I saw in the last few days, I am just thankful that all of my shopping is done. I don't have to join the "herds and hoards" or wait in the long lines at checkouts.
If you have to go out to shop today, be careful and stay safe.
