www.wktv.com/content/news/Utica-food-pantry-distributing-500-turkeys-at-fire-station-565476561.htmlHats off to Hannaford for providing the sides, and to those that made it possible to provide 500 turkeys. Food City partners with several charities here to provide the fixings for a traditional holiday dinner too. They donated an entire tractor trailer load of turkeys to local food banks, along with other foods that they routinely donate. In my opinion, NO family should be without an opportunity to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. My hat is also off to those organizations and groups that are providing a sit down dinner to those unable to otherwise have one, and to those that volunteer to prepare, serve, or deliver those meals to shut-ins. God bless them all. Our local Salvation Army expects to serve 600 people, and the Haven of Rest mission is also serving dinners, as are several local churches. We have found over the years that a person can provide a dinner for an entire family for about what it would cost for a couple to go to a movie and buy popcorn and a soda, and corporate donors are able to realize a double dividend of being able to provide for those in need while enjoying a tax write-off as a charitable contribution.
