That intersection was busy enough BEFORE Consumer Square was developed. When we were last in the area I drove past Consumer Square just once on Commercial Drive. There was two accidents, one in front of the entrance to Consumer Square and another at the light for the ramp from the Judd Road 4 lane expressway thing. The entire area is a traffic accident waiting to happen. I simply avoided the area and used the arterial, Seneca Turnpike, or Middle Settlement Rd to travel AROUND that area. I agree with the NY Mills police in their statement that a yellow light means to slow down, not speed up. People are killed or injured every day by drivers that speed up to beat the light and T-bone someone in the intersection when the light turns red before they enter the intersection. I have established a habit of waiting that extra couple of seconds after a light turns green, and looking both ways to make sure some idiot is not blasting through the intersection after the light changes. Patience isn't just a virtue. It can also be a lifesaver. I just shake my head when I am sitting at a light and when the light turns green a car next to me will floor it and do everything but burn rubber, while I accelerate at a normal rate, and catch them again at the next traffic light. They burn the extra gas to be the first one to the next light, where I once again pull up beside them.

I almost got hit yesterday crossing John Street. I figured I had enough time to cross even though I saw a car coming down John St from near the County building but the guy speed up and he just missed me as I approached the curb on the other side. I turned to look at him and the jerk had hit hand up with his middle finger. I got this feeling he was trying to hit me................no idea who he is. The police put signs up around the area of CENTRO reminding drivers that people in the process of crossing the street and are within the crossing lane have the right of way. Many do not do that anymore.

a yellow traffic signal is not an indication to speed up.
NY drivers are some of the worst I have ever encountered at trying to beat a yellow light. They also have problems with the concept of not entering an intersection unless you can clear it.
From now until 2020 it is best to stay away from Commercial Drive during normal shopping hours, I think the best time to go is 7 AM on a Sunday. Go with a list and a cup of coffee and you can be home before you need a 2nd cup.

I hate going through there at any time of year, but during the Christmas shopping season I avoid it completely.

I take the Bus up there as usual during Christmas season. I'll be up there for Black Friday. I love to watch the people especially the real rude ones. LOL Puts me in the xmas spirit.
I go more to Consumer Square the people look and act much nicer that what generally comes in the North Utica store. I still laugh at the color combinations some people come up with in dressing and always enjoy all the new various colors of people hair. Saw a rather overweight black woman today in pink and yellow tight pants( leggins) with long curly blonde hair wearing a green, yellow and black baseball cap. LOL. Snapping a wad of gum...............
