I wish all of our veterans a happy Veterans Day and want to take a moment to thank all of our nation's veterans for their sacrifices and their service. Many of us proudly served and returned home unscathed. Others were not so fortunate. Many didn't return home, and many returned home wounded and disabled. Many Vietnam veterans still die every day from the effects of being exposed to Agent Orange. Others are tortured by PTSD. We now have yet another generation serving in our military, and in daily live combat situations. It is for them that I pray. I pray for their safety and for their future physical as well as mental wellbeing. I also pray that someday soon we will be able to raise a generation that doesn't have to face armed conflict.
To all our vets, enjoy your day, and thanks again for serving and protecting the freedoms that we often take for granted.

The grand kids are here today, it's a school holiday. Grandma is keeping some of them entertained by helping her make cookies. Spectrum TV decided to take the day off as well. It's a holiday so no repair service until tomorrow.
Young Keith decided to snuggle between us to keep warm last night. That was OK but he decided that 5:30 AM was the perfect time to start a holiday. Luckily we can use a phone and the Chromecast to watch Paw Patrol.

Is it a widespread outage or just a problem with your cable CB? I would think if it is a problem for more than just you they would have someone on call to repair the problem. Spectrum DOES really leave much to be desired, but they have a monopoly in your area. At least we have a choice available here. We dumped Spectrum for our local utility's cable. It has it's drawbacks but it is much cheaper and the service is much better than Spectrum. If we have a problem, they send a tech in an expedient manner.

Just got back from Golden Corral and a free buffet dinner. I filled up on steak and fried jumbo shrimp, a huge salad, and brussels sprouts. finished it off with bread pudding with a little bit of soft ice cream on top. There were plenty of VFW and DAV people there acting as hosts, escorting people to their tables and the DAV chaplain prayed with us all, and the VFW bugler played taps in a little salute while we all stood and saluted. I was lucky. A guy I bowled with years ago had a seat open so I sat with him and his wife, and eventually a 92 yr old WWII vet sat down with us. When I got there the parking lot was full to capacity, but when I walked in I was able to walk right to the cashier where she checked my VA ID card and gave me my drink. By the time I left there was a line the length of the building and people were parking across the service road in the Walmart parking lot. Little Caesar's is giving away a $5 "Hot and Ready" pizza for free to veterans. I thought about stopping and bringing one home to eat tomorrow, but their pizza is so darned greasy I didn't bother. I think they lube the crust with 10W40 before they put the cheese and pepperoni on it.

Luckily we can use a phone and the Chromecast to watch Paw Patrol. CB, we had an issue here late Friday with Spectrum. One of our tv's would not recieve a signal. I called Spectrum tech assistance & the so called expert was absolutely no help whatsoever. He scheduled a repair visit for Sunday between 12-1, fine. Saturday morning I got up & said the hell with it. I unhooked the cable box & headed off to the newfangled Spectrum store at Consumer Square arriving at 10 when they open. The place is a nightmare. I stood there for an hour waiting to be called because you have to sign in & wait for THEM because they have only two people working there despite the fact that the place was packed. I exchanged the cable box for a new one plus a new remote because I asked for it, went home, hooked up the new box & it worked like a charm. This ain't the first time I've had to return & exchange the junk cable boxes that Spectrum issues to it's customers. The moral to the story? You probably just need a new cable box & if you have to visit a Spectrum store, pack a lunch. Sorry for the rant & going off subject.

Possibly but I having the problem with 4 TVs connected to 4 boxes. Some of it is over the top. Barb watches the one in our bedroom for 1 hour per night. The one in the kitchen gets used 2-3 hours per day. When the kids are here they use the one in the basement mostly for Xbox. We sometimes watch family movies there. The one in the den gets the most use.We both watch the Today show and the noon news. Barb watches Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy while I read. Then she watches the Law & Order channel while I put my feet up and have a glass of wine and put my feet up.
Such is the busy life of a retired couple.
It's about time for Barb to start negotiating with our service providers. She will probably start by asking how our bill will be effected by giving up 2 cable boxes and our land line. After all a Chromecast is less than $40 and half the calls on the land line are telemarketers. They will usually come back with a counter offer which often includes a package at a lower per month cost and new phones. Last time she did that I had to switch to a Samsung phone. I still don't like their phone user interface but I like their tablets.

I have a question. When you all speak about a cable box what do you mean. I do not have a cable box attached to my TV. I have a digital converter. It went out a few months ago and I called Spectrum and they also scheduled a technician to come over on a Sunday from 1 to 2 PM. I got a very nice guy. He checked everything out and found out it was not the digital converter but the plug that goes into the wall. He replaced that and also gave me a new remote and programmed it to turn on TV and the converter at the same time. Before I had two remotes one for the TV and another for the digital converter.
Anyways I was talking to him and said wouldn't it be easier if these converters and boxes could be eliminated. He said that is being worked on and very soon everything will be set up like the Amazon firestick or whatever it is called. In other words the cable goes directly into the TV and no need for these crazy adapters.
Couple of years ago I had some grumpy old man who came to fix the same problem and it was a weekday. He cut the cable for TV in the bedroom. I said I wish he didn't do that even though I don't use it and he said it is interfering with my reception. Then he said I can always call back whenever I want it reconnected. I only have/need one TV but I am thinking of getting another TV for the bedroom just to bug the guy who lives next door. I can use an antenna since I just want to turn the volume up and annoy the idiot.

Good question. I have cables and phone wires running all over my house s.ome dating back to the 60s. I once had more TVs until Spectrum changed the rules requiring a box at each TV each with a monthly charge. Currently I have a cable coming from the utility pole where there is a splitter. One output from the splitter goes around to the back of the house up to the 2nd floor and to a router which provides internet to the house. Another lead goes up to another 2nd floor bedroom, then into the attic, across the attic to our bedroom closet to a small box which attaches to a TV there. Another lead goes into the basement where it gets split 3 ways. One goes into the basement TV with a small box. One goes into the kitchen which has a small box.
We also have phone wires all over the house. When we moved in there were phone jacks in almost every room including the garage. What we have now is a base station with 4 wireless remotes. The base station can also connect by blue tooth to a cell phone. If we decide to dump the landline we can power the house phone from a cell phone.

I heard Spectrum fees went up $10/ month. If Spectrum does away with cable boxes they'll find another way to gouge customers for the lost revenue from those cable box fees.

I don't think they will drop the cable boxes, they only introduced the small ones a few years ago. Before that you could get basic cable without a box. We may go back to basic cable plus streaming for other things.

They should be able to just program a persons TV based on what package they have. Right now you can trouble shoot TV and or internet connection problems and reset a ping if needed. I did it a few time for internet. Much better than waiting for a technician to come over. You do that right on their web page under your account.
