Winter storm watch issued; parts of CNY could see nearly a foot of snow www.syracuse.com/weather/2019/11/winter-storm-watch-issued-parts-of-cny-could-see-nearly-a-foot-of-snow.htmlSYRACUSE, N.Y. - A winter storm watch starts Monday for parts of Central New York where nearly a foot of snow could fall by Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued the watch for Oneida County, where up to 11 inches of snow is forecasted to fall, as well as Herkimer County and the Adirondacks. The watch starts at 1 p.m. Monday and runs until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Though no watches or warnings have been issued for other parts of Central New York, the region should expect to see significant snowfall. Onondaga County could see up to nine inches of snow, as could northern Cayuga and Madison counties. Parts south of Onondaga County are likely to see less snow, but may see freezing rain and ice accumulation. The snow is expected to start falling Monday afternoon in Syracuse, Utica and other spots in the northern part of the forecast area. Wintry precipitation will begin in areas around Binghamton by Monday evening. The weather service stressed that there’s “significant uncertainty” in the snow amounts for the forecast area south of the New York State Thruway to the New York-Pennsylvania border. The snow won’t be the only taste of winter we’ll have to deal with. Once the snow passed through, expect record- or near-record-setting lows Wednesday morning, with single-digit lows and sub-zero wind chills in spots.
