What they say bout dairy products or milk countering the heat of hot peppers is true. We had hot dogs and potato salad for supper. It is just too hot to eat anything very heavy, or cook much in the house. It was 94 while I was cooking hot dogs on the gas grill, and the heat index was well over 100 degrees. Sweltering or stifling would be the only way to describe it. My favorite toppings for a hot dog are sweet relish and a generous helping of sliced pickled jalapenos.
I was able to pick my truck up at the body shop this afternoon. They do very nice work and when I picked it up it had been completely detailed, washed, spray waxed, and vacuumed inside, and tires shined. Kathy made a potato salad while I was gone, and we had apple cobbler left from yesterday. I stopped and replenished my supply of jalapeno slices, and up a carton of vanilla ice cream at Freddie's Frozen Custard.
Having savored my favorite jalapeno loaded hot dogs, I dug into a bowl of cobbler with a large scoop of the ice cream on top. Hot cobbler and ice cream is a true delight. I took a big spoonful of the ice cream and let it melt in my mouth. The capsaicin burn was gone immediately. I am a freak for hot peppers. I put jalapenos on sandwiches, salads and pizza. I learned long ago from a Mexican friend that if the heat leaves you with burning lips and mouth, drinking a glass of milk or eating ice cream will quell the heat. We used to sit on the stoop and eat hot peppers with crackers and wash them down with 16 ounce cans of Lucky Lager.
Kathy just shakes her head and laughs at me when I am eating with one hand and wiping the sweat from my brow with the other.
