The photo of the car wedged under the tractor trailer hits close to home this morning. Just last night there was a wreck on I-81 near here. The traffic has slowed and stopped due to a minor accident ahead. They just released the name of he victim. It is thought that the young man was possibly "distracted" in some way as they believe that the car went under the rear of the trailer at highway speed without hardly braking. The speed limit in that area is 70 mph. I would have to suspect that it was a cell phone that distracted him. There was no alcohol or drugs involved. Thankfully he was the only one in the car.
"Kirk Nairn, 18, died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police. Nairn played soccer and basketball for the Falcons and was also a golfer on Abingdon's state champion golf team. He was going to go to the University of Kentucky on an ROTC scholarship."
Such a sad loss of a promising young life. He was scheduled to graduate from high school at a ceremony tonight. However tragic, it may serve as an example that may save other lives during the season when high school graduates and other teens are going to be going to graduation parties.

It is frightening to be passed on the Thruway and see that the driver passing you has one hand on the wheel and the other is holding his phone in front of his face.

It sure IS frightening. Just yesterday Kathy and I were on our way to the strawberry farm and to look at a campground in that area. It is ridiculous. A car started to wander over the line and then corrected. Kathy looked and not only was THAT person on the phone, three out of the five next cars we passed were being driven one handed by people with their faces glancing back and forth from road to phone and back to the road. The magnitude of the problem here in Tennessee is absolutely appalling. It has gotten so a person has to take a close look into the other vehicles side mirror to see if the driver is on the phone or is actually looking at the road and driving before you dare to pass.
PS: The strawberry farm's store sells homemade ice cream. We ordered ice cream and sat at a picnic table in the sunshine and ate it. The ice cream was to die for. I had a strawberry sundae and had them make with salted caramel ice cream. 8 more quarts of strawberries, prepped and in the freezer. I try to buy a couple of quarts every time I go by the stand here in Bristol so that Kathy is not forced to stand at the sink hulling strawberries for hours on end. We decided it was a nice day for a ride so we drove 35 miles to the store at the actual farm. I also bought a 4 lb bag of locally milled corn meal and a pint jar of local honey.
Found that the campground is a small privately owned campground in the Cherokee National Forest with only 22 sites. There is a creek that runs behind most of the sites that is teeming with rainbow and brown trout. $25 a night for a full hook-up site with an 8 by 12 wooden deck overlooking the creek at every site. Beautiful shaded sites and a real nice couple that runs it. Very serene and peaceful. The only "drawback" would be that there is no wifi or cable. We are usually able to get local channels and a few others wherever we camp just using the analog roof antenna so we can watch the local news over coffee in the morning and Wheel and Jeopardy in the evening if we are not sitting around a campfire enjoying the outdoors. As far as wifi, I can live without it or access it through an "AT&T hot spot on my phone or Ipad. I don't go camping to sit with my face buried in a cell phone screen or sitting in the trailer watching tv so as long as we have cell phone service where someone can contact us in an emergency, lack of internet is no problem.

was developed to fatten turkeys, but killed them instead, so they added food coloring and sold it to humans as healthy alternative to butter LOL

It seems to be a sad present day fact of life.
