I do miss opening day of Trout Season. And old friend and I went out religiously on April 1 to fish the streams. Yes, I took my fly rod, but I backed that up with old fashioned worms and a bait rod, usually a spinning rod. Not very many trout moving around looking for trout in water with temperatures in the forties, but I did wake one up and land him occasionally. It could get pretty cold in the Catskill Mountains in the winter, so we really would have been better off to head east and cross the border into Connecticut to fish the Mad River at Rugg Brook. But we were anxious to get back to our late spring through fall fishing spots in our familiar old mountains.
