Thank GOD for the plate glass in the door! And, wouldn't this mess up your whole night if you were to take out the trash at the wrong time? These are from a guy out at Broadalbin , NY . The pictures were taken from his bar room onto his patio deck. The critter was watching his little grandson playing on the floor! Broadalbin is about 10 miles north of Amsterdam, NY You just never know what is in your back yard!

Maybe this is what my dog was barking at this morning about 15 minutes ago and woke up the entire household!!!!!
Sorry, Todd, but the picture link wouldn't work for me so I could not see the pictures you posted.
Amsterdam is not that far away from us so this is something we all should be aware of. Thankfully, my dog and cats are kept inside during the night and I don't have any little children. But, for those that do - this is very much of a concern.
Since when did Cougars start roaming around New York State? I'll have to ask my oldest son about this as he is a great outdoorsman and hunter and I'm sure he will know if there are any Cougars roaming around in NYS beside this one near Amsterdam.

not just cougars in nys but I saw on the national news that a cougar was wandering around chicago! It was real, as they found and shot him, which I think is a shame - seems like they could have darted him and released him somewhere but then if someone's life was in danger guess they had to do what they did.

There have been cougars reported several times over the last few years, usually farther up in the Adirondacks, but I am sure there are some in other wilderness areas. Surprisingly they seem to be afraid of and deterred by dogs, unless cornered. I saw that on National Geographics on cable I was just thinking of the "sniper patrol" Thelma. I guess we might have to have them patrol Cosby Manor along with keeping crime in check, haha. I like to hunt so I would volunteer to man the gun turret on a hummer with gun turret and lots of spot lights. Isn't Bobbbiez a cat lover?? Maybe she brought one in from Constable and the St Lawrence Valley, thinking it was a stray kitten, and it grew and bred.

Hey if you could fugue out what happened to the pictures that would be great- I have friends on other forums who go camping out there and would be interested to see.
If you do see any cougars call those Environmental Guys (you know- the ones that deny that Cougars exist up here) and report it.

cougars, bobcat, lynx, and wolves have been indigenous to nys forever usually in the adirondacks as well as two species of rattle snakes and water moccasin in the catskills check out the dec exhibit at the nys fair sometime the fact that a cougar is making its way to a populated area however is not good and if memory serves me all are protected species.

Cougar is another name for mountain lion? Wow. I thought they were only found in the west.

Very interesting!
Thelma, make sure your dog is in and don't go out to check on what it may be.
We have a skunk family that wanders around down between Loretto and Dunkin. There are also plenty of raccoons out there as well. Both can be carriers of rabies.

What a pretty kitty cat! It just wanted to play. Perhaps if the grandson had a ball of yarn the cougar would have enjoyed the interaction. Maybe the cougar wants to improve human-cougar relations. And yes, cougars have been native to NYS for many years.

Of course though if I saw one looking into my house, I'd probably fall off my chair and stumble trying to find the camera. Last night I was in a chair by the sliding glass door with only the screen protecting me. The cougar would have had a blast with me.

If I ever saw this Cougar around my house at night, I would drop dead on the spot of a heart attack!
Ralph, I never let my dog out at night - usually once he knows he has woken us up and a few reassuring words is all it takes for him to go and lie back down. Then he goes to sleep - while I'm still awake wondering what it was he was barking at - LOL.
We have a skunk problem in our area - especially on garbage night pickup. There is no way I want to undertake the job of getting the skunk smell out of a dog's fur - LOL!

I'm right with you, Thelma. Now I'm really glad my cats don't go outside!! ............................................................................................. Cats should never go outside, IMO! I have a pampered Himalayan cat named "Mora" who is 17 1/2 years old. She has NEVER been outside on her own and probably would starve to death if she had to fend for herself. On the otherhand, my youngest daughter felt sorry for a 5 week old kitten she "found" on a farm and decided to bring him home to her apartment. Then, when this cat (feral) got to be around 10 months old, she had to move and could not take the cat with her. Guess who got the cat - LOL! His name is "Kato" and he is impossible to keep inside. Basically, all I do is feed him and give him a place to sleep (inside) at night. Anyone want a long haired, tiger male cat who is very loveable?

Those are awesome pictures! My husband has seen mountain lion tracks up in the Adirondacks when he's been hunting. He's never seen one though. I know people think they're seeing one up near the Carthage area too. When they come around people, they're lookin for food. Hopefully that one just moved on!
